Old-style (not beer) dirt tracks missed.
PRob ably been covered before but what has not. Anyone else miss REAL offroad tracks with uneven mixed dirts, clumps, ruts, weeds, not well manicured etc.
In hindsight they gave a hack like me a fighting chamce. An average driver at best these perfectly manicured apex clipping carpeted jump things require way more precision than I am capable of. I miss the days when camberr or tie rods did not require a micrometer to go out and be a competing B main guy.
Now get off my lawn!

Never got to run that stuff. I didnt get to run a track till 1999/2000 at so cal raceway, and we had MnM in Corona that was a slicks kinda track. New tires ran at so-cal, when they were old and worn, then used them at MnM.
I think more astroturf or indoor carpet tracks will pop up. Takes a track owner what 2 minutes to maybe a few hours to change track, or he can run jumps one day, on-road sedans the next. so 1 trakc does double duty. or with dirt tracks, its rent a bobcat, try and get 4-10 people that will work for free for a couple of days. track is down not making money for days. so then i woudl think real estate, economy and drivers buying power plays a roll into that also.

I'm sure your right. My glory days of tracks were roughly 88-93 or so. The tires used today on most dirt would have been useless. I did most of my racing on a track that was on Park District land, I can't imagine that these days.

I miss those tracks especially the big berms, loose dirt and big spiked tires. Sliding into the corners with a 4wd buggy and nailing the throttle and spraying the spectators with dirt.
The good ol'days

Amen, my 1st win was a B main with a 4WD YZ10 all over those berms because I couldn't drive in a straight line. Granted there were four cars, 2 broke and other guys battery dumped, but I won

I bet you and I crossed paths on some of those park district tracks. Any chance you are referring to Lemont or Joliet?RCveteran wrote:I'm sure your right. Park District Track was in Arlington Heights by the resevoir. Also did a bunch of racing up in McHenry at old Hobby town no longer there.
Too my knowledge I was the only one ever running a Schumacher topcat for a bit. Now that is a claim to fame.
