SHY's Tamiya B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evolution
So does anyone want to know what I did to this plastic fantastic thing from Toymia, sorry Tamiya? It's currently in it's "Evo IV" stage. It will eventually be "Evo V" and then it'll be maxed out as I see it.

Re: Tamiya B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evolution
OK, here we go... I had a Supershot as a kid and I loved the car! A reliable and well performing car. I also had a Kyosho Progress 4WDS in the 80s (before the Supershot) - that one was more of a nightmare
I still have my original car, which went through several reincarnations back in the day. You can read about it here:
http://tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=103029&id=22039
Anyways, I always had the belief that a Hotshot/Supershot could perform well even today, but with some necessary modifications. It all kicked off in 2008 when the Hotshot was re-released. I then also got vintage racing going slightly by adding it as a sidekick to the modern national series. Being able now to pull out laptimes only a couple of tenths slower than a Tamiya Top Force I dare to say the mission is complete
I like to do my runner modifications in stages, and what better to call them than "Evolutions"?
Here is my B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evo I:

Here is my B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evo II:

Here is my B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evo III:

Here is my B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evo IV:

As said Evo V is in the works. It'll put shame on the BigWig

Thx for looking!
Oh, and you gotta have team apparel right?

That is some sexy stuff! I just built a HS re-re (after owning one as a kid in the 80s) getting into the hobby. You have inspired me! Anything is possible.

Thx guys! Yep! Thorp ball diff it is, there's not much more that have been made for this car. I know there's one more, don't recall the name and it's rare as hen's teeth...

Re: SHY's Tamiya B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evolution
Awesome! I have a 99% complete Hotshot but wondered - how do you change the mono shock setup front and rear to the Supershot setup so you can use 4 shocks?
Also, I bought an undertray for mine but couldn't figure out how I could put in a lipo without having to take one of the battery holders off everytime so I cut one of the posts a bit so it clicks in and out. Do you have a better method?

Re: SHY's Tamiya B.A.R. Honda Hotshot Evolution
Thx Chris!
In order to convert a Hotshot to a "Supershot" with 4 dampers you'll need:
-Rear damper tower (fiberglass)
-Front aluminium damper holders
(Plus 4x dampers and fastening stuff that fit those dampers)
I'd skip the bottom plate (Supershot). One of the biggest shortcomings of these cars is the low ground clearance. See in my 1st post the links and have a look through the pics. I've ditched it + dremeled down the gearboxes as much as possible. This is key to improve the suspension performance.
What you do with a bottom plate is you loosen one of the SIDE battery holders. One screw out, then swing it out & slide the battery out.
Good luck!

Thanks for reply, guys.
ball diff. is great, but it takes too much to get both front and rear.

Thanks but that is really pricey for a rear shock tower. Does anyone make a clone of that part or is there another compatible part that would work? I want one but not that badly.SHY wrote:No problem!

$9? That's pretty cheap imo!
