my Carlsson collection
Re: my Carlsson collection
Finally I've got a Carlsson Comet
It's dirty and corroded but in no means a unsalvageable.
Not quite complete, I think? There are parts missing from this that is found on other Comet 4x4 Off Road, but that aren't in the manual. there was ongoing upgrades and improvments so maybe this is an early one.
I'm cleaning up the manual which will be uploaded when finished. A sneak peak.
This car is now sold.

Re: my Carlsson collection
Congratulations from the other side of the border! Very good to see the Comet added to this fantastic Carlsson collection
It would be a true Jack in the Box to see a 2wd buggy from Carlsson. I think the Comet was first shown at the Nürnberg toy fair 1984 and you could get both an off road and track version of it.

Fantastic, a new kit is always awesome, I built a new pro80 from 90% new parts some years ago and it was a great feeling.
If it would have been a kit I would have hesitated but as it was from spareparts I had no remorse.
It's this one.

Re: my Carlsson collection
Do you know how much versions of 1/8 scale cars were made overall by Carlsson and is there a timeline?
Got a new Pro 80 myself now and try to find out what they made.

Re: my Carlsson collection
There were two models prior to the Pro80 model and one after that were based on the same concept.
The names for the first two are uncertain but I read a test made by a magazine in where they called the second model IC.
I don't know what IC stands for.
The third model was the Pro 80.
The fourth was called Carlsson Beginner and was an entry level car that used some plastic parts to make it more affordable.
These four model had basically the same design.
After that came the Pro80S which had suspension for the rear axle only.
Then came the Viking 4WS (four wheel suspension) which also came in an off road model and a 4wd model.
I'm not sure if you could buy a 4wd off road model or if you had to buy a conversion kit.
The last model was the Comet, also came as on road or off road.

Re: my Carlsson collection
Thanks. I hardly can see a difference between Pro 80 and the Beginner, beside the rear axle blocks.
Regardin Pro 80, was there also a version without diff before or was this included always?
I noticed the 1979 national title for the Pro 80, so was this car introduced at this year or before?
I found for the Comet 4WS there were two versions, early version around 1982 and the newer one two years later with main difference being rear suspension arms. But is there an overall timeline for the 1/8 scale cars?

Re: my Carlsson collection
The difference between Pro 80 and the Beginner is the rear bearing blocks in plastic, all bearings are plastic and the front chassisplate is made from alloy.
I believe that Pro 80 always came with differential but that the first model came without.
I don't exactly know all the dates for the different models but I'm slowly learning.
4WS and comet are two different models with only a few parts in common.
I'm going to meet with a person in about two weeks time thas has much more information about Carlsson rc cars.
So I may make a timeline with dates after that meeting.

Re: my Carlsson collection
Yes.
The first Car was called C1 (Carlsson One) 1978.
I later came with a differential and was then called C1d (Carlsson One Differential) 1978.
After that there was the Pro 80 in 1979.
More dates will be added as I get them.
Regarding the Beginner, I was told that it never was a success, and that only about 20 kits were ever sold.
There were 2 generations Comet, the Comet and the Comet X2.
One difference between the two was that the later had plastic covers for the gearbox and the earlier had lexan covers which had to be cut and drilled before fitting

Re: my Carlsson collection
Thanks.
Regarding the cars with suspension, so the Comet was a 4WD car and there was no 2WD version?
The older Viking was 2WD, no 4WD version made? At least haven´t seen one so far.
