Sometimes It Pays to Go Take a Look
So I answered an ad on "Letgo" for an "electric rc truck" for $40 earlier today. Pick was sorta like the one below of the body on. I gave it a 50/50 of being something decent, but it looked like hobby grade so I went to take a look. I ended up with this converted buggy, another rc10 (B3 or B4, haven't looked at it much yet), an early Losi truck, and a box of parts that included a full set, front and rear, of new Andy's arms, Proline pepper shaker wheels, jelly bean wheels, lots of good vintage tires, etc, etc, etc for the tidy sum of $100. This buggy looks to be a monster truck conversion using a mix of Andy's, JG, and some other cool stuff. I believe the wheels are Tecnacraft and I'm not sure of the make of the graphite chassis. Aluminum bellcranks, Tecnacraft? turnbuckles, it goes on and on. Then I noticed the transmission. It's a six gear, but it has some kind of conversion to run the motor, spur etc on the opposite side. No idea who makes it, or what the purpose or advantage is. The esc is something I've never seen before either. It came with a programmer box. Even the Futaba receiver is a type that I've never seen. It's filthy and untested, but it sure seemed like a good score. Anyone who wants to chime in and school me on the esc, receiver, trans or anything else you see----I'm listening.

Houge trailing arm chassis. Hyperdrive motorplate...for their belt drive. JRX2 or Ultima front arms. Zeta ESC from the late 80's/early 90's.
Great deal for what you paid.

From memory when I did a 6 gear mid-mount I used a plate like that,
otherwise the car would run backwards?

The front arms are Andy's. I had a feeling this chassis may might have been for a trailing arm conversion with those holes back there.

...for an Ultima or JRX2.

You chassis is in pretty decent condition. For some reason people seemed to love drilling random holes in them.

You have a good eye Phin. I didn't notice that and I've got two sets of rc10 Andy's front arms sitting right here.
I wonder why he used these ones? I have a feeling on a little closer inspection that the Losi is actually a JRx2, not a truck. I've never been a Losi guy and I'm bad at recognizing the different models. When I get to it, I'll post some picks of that one in the Losi section.

Re: Sometimes It Pays to Go Take a Look
I have a very similar Futaba receiver. Its odd to me in that it has wires with plugs, instead of the typical socket plugs in the receiver itself. Makes me think it was produced for a specific purpose, like an RTR with a receiver box or something. I can't shed any more light than that.
But it looks and sounds like you got a great deal!

Re: Sometimes It Pays to Go Take a Look
R2H (g plug) and R102H (j plug) were Futaba's micro receivers in the 80's. They put the connections on wires to reduce the size of the case. Made it easier to fit on 1/12th cars.matt1ptkn wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 7:19 am I have a very similar Futaba receiver. Nice score indeed, actually a robbery... I can't seem to find any extra holes in the Houge chassis though.

Re: Sometimes It Pays to Go Take a Look
I don't think it's a Houge chassis because it has arm mount holes. Unless they were added, it's probably and early Andy's chassis.

Re: Sometimes It Pays to Go Take a Look
There aren't any extra holes in Basher's chassis...it's the ones you typically see on eBay that are in pretty lousy condition.

The Houge chassis came with and without rear a-arm mount holes. Also think it's an early and late deal.
They're both kind of the same chassis anyway. Houge's trailing arms became the Andy's trailing arms.

Re: Sometimes It Pays to Go Take a Look
It would be so much easier if they had a brand name on the chassis. I wonder if all these vintage graphite chassis were made by the same company. Raceco, Hogue, Composite Craft, etc chassis all look like they came from the same place. The real mystery seems to be the esc and it's program box. There is very little mention of the brand anywhere on the web. I would love to have a manual on it so I could see the options with the programmer and how to use it. From what little info I could find, they were supposedly a very high end product.
This is one of the other buggies that came with the deal. I can't tell if it's a B3 or B2. I've never owned either one before and they all look the same to me
