Vintage TC3 Gene Husting collection car

Hello I figured to share this on this page. I’m a new member but a long time RC enthusiast and enjoyed the TC3 and NTC3. I acquired this TC3 from Gene Husting’s museum from his son Curtis when they auctioned off some of Genes collection. I think this was a practice car of Billy Eastons. I consider it vintage but I could be wrong. None the less it’s just a shelf queen example of a race capable TC3 from the yesterday! Even has an old LRP Competition esc and modified brushed motor. Does anyone know what type of battery I might need torun this old car or to see if it even works still. Or should I be running something like this? More so I wanted to see if it ran and mabey just a few laps around a smooth parking lot. Thanks

Welcome aboard, quite a first post, really!

It's not quite vintage yet, but it is significant to the history of the brand, probably the car that the most lasting impression on the category, like the RC10 did in its time. That very one is VERY special because of the race history

You need a 6-cell Sub-C "side-by side" assembly like IIIIII to fit in there. A stick like === works but is not what the racers used bitd Period-correct is 2000mah nicads, then 2400mah. Not sure the first 3000mah, might be more TC4-like.

I consider you should NOT run this car... but it's up to you

If it were mine I would just clean up the motor wires, put a period set of dish wheels on it like the photo and put it on the shelf as is.

All of the details seem to match like sticker placement, motor labels, etc.

From the article the batteries Billy used were Panisonic 3000mah Stock Metal Hydrides. These are extremely hard to come by but show up on ebay from time to time.

If you are looking to run the car any hard cased 2S lipo pack should be fine. But I agree with the others on this thread and think it would be awesome if it were kept as a display car given it's history.

Whether you decide to run it or not is up to you. I have several shelf queens but take them out on occasion and run them with restraint. Although last week I was running an older RC 10 T and flipped it over and broke the rear body mount. The $2.00 part back then is hard to find and cost me $24 with shipping. I still enjoy running the old stuff. I am currently converting my TC3 to brushless. Yours has a unique history so I hope you keep it as is. As always these are my humble options. That is an amazing article with all the details. The car matches everything including the sticker on the motor etc. I have that battery pack in the picture but I wasn’t sure it was usable so I was thinking to see if it runs. I knew the history of this car when I bid on it but didn’t know it was used in races. I’m an avid associated fan I’ve got b6d’s I’ve been running on a track for a few years and I’ve had multiple tc3’s when I was a teenager and a ntc3 I sold recently. Let me go out to the garage and I’ll get a pick of that pack I think it matches the picture. Very cool article though thank you. And yes it’s been solely a display car for a couple years now. I don’t think I’ll run it

Hello thanks I always browse the forums but never joined. I’ll take a look I think I have the battery. And I think after finding out some more info and knowing what it was it’s best to just leave it rest! As a display. I’m sure I can find an old TC3 rtr to run. I was curious if it ran was all I think.

Looks like the same battery pack from the article and even the same stickers that fell off the motor right to the detail of the crumbled one. Any idea how I could re attach those little stickers on the motor? They lost their stickiness.

Yes I am always worried about that. Even a not so vintage Arrma Nero I have I am worried to run as the parts are getting scarce and more expensive also. I do like old RC cars though. I think I can agree with you and after some information given here that the car is best placed on a shelf and not ran! I would think some of the parts on this one may be irreplaceable. A fine piece of history. I would keep it a shelfer as well. Agree it would be better to aquire another TC3 and clone it after this one to use as a runner.

That looks like a reedy Ti motor

I think it’s the Reedy Ti 8x3 custom motor in the article. I’d like to remove it to have a look but not sure if I should mess with it. I tried to picture it but the label of course is hidden for the most part in the way it’s mounted
