I feel the Need for Speed

Hi All,

I've always had this thing for speed (no pun intended).

Anyone got any recommendations on a good car to base a build on it. Nothing expensive as I'm a big tight arse.

Hi Mate,

Yes gathered that, just wanted to see if anyone had experience with certain models, Schumacher Mi v Team Associated TC or other models, ie belt v shaft/ reliability etc .
I would need to get an older car to keep the price down as well.

I think belt drive is fine as long as you don’t "mash" the throttle. With belt drive you don't get the torque steer of a shaft driven car.

A fellow I knew ran 4 cell lipo in a cheap 3 Racing Sakura touring car with a short course combo and it was so fast it kept exploding foam tires. Everything was about as cheap as it got, lol.

His car inspired me to build a dedicated speed car but we moved house, states, and finances got really tight so the project stalled and went back to a touring car.

Here's where I got to, would have loved to finish it.

My finances are always tight lol. I'll start this and most likely never finish it like a lot of my other projects.
I was leaning towards a belt driven car, I'm sure a cheap car will presents it self at some point.

I don't know how often used ones come up, but my Losi Slider 10th scale sprint car has been the most stable during high speed runs. I'd say I've had it going 60 and it's completely stable in a straight line. Handles the power well too. I can't say how it might do if you're looking to go crazy fast though.

How about this, 1:10 pan car. Always good for fun and speed - I used to run a 10L at Coburg Velodrome back in the day (https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=42120&id=154). This one is a 200mm model, so fits 'normal' touring car bodies, unlike my old one, which took 235mm Pro10 bodies like my Schumacher Daytona does.

Of course, if you prefer 4wd and a touring chassis, I still have this one (https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=127717&id=154) that I got from a mate four years ago. It has definite velodrome pedigree, as was run at some speed... but unfortunately, the body needs a bit of strengthening work. Still a nice car, though.

Hi Alex, I've got an RC10L which I've dabbled with in the past but it's out of action due to lack of parts. I even tried with an xray 1/12 T1 mini which was great, just to hard to fit bigger batteries and electronics.

Now that Touring car looks interesting, being Tamiya I assume parts are easier to find. Is that something you would part with?

no problems at all, it was never my intention to be a buy/sell thread.

I'll get this topic back on track with some pics/video once I get further with the project.

I've got a 3.5t motor that I will run on 2cell to begin with and look to see what else I can use to get more speed. I don't want to go insane but at least 150km
