Not that these are terribly exciting but the Mk1 engine head has five fins and the Mk2 head has seven.

The exhaust can on the Mk1 is sealed on the face of the can (left) and the Mk2 exhaust can is sealed on the back side (right).

Looking good so far,RJ.

Some of the differences were not always linked to the S15R vs the S15R2... a few quick points, from memory:
- The larger engine cooling head was an upgrade option on the Mk1. Some later S15R2 heads were also a darker blue.
- The sealed can exhaust was a running upgrade, as the 2-piece one leaked (ask me how I know).
- I thought I read somewhere that the S15R2 block had more strengthening.
- Carbs are indeed different, and are the main visual point of reference for the different engines.
- Don't recall the clutch / flywheel being different... are you sure the brake shoe screw didn't just create it's own clearance?

Loving the disassembly shots..... and looking forward even more to the assembly and running shots! :P

Got the crankcase all cleaned up which came out pretty good, much better then before. Just need to get a new rear bearing and we can start putting it back together again.

Luckily it's pretty easy to fix, some are a real PITA.

But yeah, every time you hear the spring noise a new curse word is created

I finally spent some time on this again and replaced the bearing.

I've also jumped in and assembled most of the engine, just need to clean the carb and it will be done.

Without going overboard I cleaned and scuffed the clutch shoes/bell, and sanded some of the larger scratches out of the flywheel. There is some oxidation under the anodizing of the head so it's as good as it will be. Not perfect but looks pretty good.

So is this running yet RJ, or are you delaying starting it up (and thus, completing the rebuild) after I threatened to send up 6 or 8 more?

:P
