When it's R/C related, but doesn't fit anyplace else.

Indoor race track

Post by Frankentruck »

I have this wasted attic space that's at least 12 feet x 32 feet, which could be maximized to 40 feet with some creativity. The attic has been insulated so it's not super hot in the summer. It feels like if could have all the makings of an indoor RC track space with some thought given to the air duct work. I'm not sure if this is enough space though for a worthwhile carpet track. If so, it would solve my #1 problem of finding a good place to run. I could possibly even do a banked turn. It's about a 6 foot drop from where I'm standing to the rafters shown, so I have some height to work with.

I say go for it. The track I raced on in high school was a completely flat, painted, smooth cement oval track. It was basically 2, 50-foot straightaways connected by 2 hairpin turns. We raced every imaginable class on it and had a blast. We once had a promotional race in the mall and used roofing paper for the track surface. That may be a cheap solution for your surface.

It looks like I'll need to watch the price of plywood. I would need 15 sheets, but not at $50 or more each.
