My First Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot Restoration Project project Finally Finished!

Post by TycoTamiya4eva »

I love to restore more than building new out the box. Its just something about bringing old forgotten RC'S back to life so when I came across someone who had this old blackfoot body and Sees Aluminum wheels with a vintage Sassy Chassis thats been sitting in his basement for over 20 years I just had to have it. When I finally got it in my possession I noticed I was in for some serious work but I was up for the challenge. First the body was scratched up badly with holes everywhere and seemed like it was painted over several times but I have seen worse. Now for the aluminum wheels and chassis they were both heavily oxidized from sitting in that basement for all of those years so I tried to ask people in FB groups, forums and friends if I could pay someone to clean them up as I know nothing about removing oxidation but no one wanted to touch them. I even had some people call it all junk and laughed that I even bought them to begin with. I then called some local metal/aluminium cleaning companies and the lowest quote I got was 400$ to clean them with a extremely long wait time. So thats when I bought some cleaning products and got to work on them myself. After hours of cleaning and no feelings in my fingers I must say I am proud the way everything came out. This is my first blackfoot in my collection and I love it.

That turned out really nice! I've never seen a Blackfoot Sassy Chassis before.

My biggest concern with a vintage Blackfoot is the hex shaped dogbone setup wearing out. The rerelease Blackfoot has been changed to the more reliable pin style dogbone setup.

It was pretty fun searching the gravel driveway for the thrown dogbones though...

I remember the ads for the Sassy Chassis setups, but also have never seen a Blackfoot. That thing looks great!
Hope you're doin' something fun.

I think this might be one of the most beautiful blackfoot builds ever. Seriously, this build almost made me buy a wrecked blackfoot that had sees wheels on it. I would have, if someone else didnt snag it first!

Thanks and the this build was based on the super blackfoot trans wich in my opinion is better than the original blackfoot and I agree pin is better than hex
