I am surprised to see "tires/wheels open" for all of the vintage classes. This track was "slicks only" every time I went. The lady in charge was not too happy when I asked either, as if I should have known even though it was my first time at any track in 30 years. A 5 minute harangue about the time and money spent to prep the track and how I wasn't going to tear it up followed. I hadn't even unpacked and had no tires on my cars. "That is why I asked, it is my first time here " was deemed an unacceptable answer, and a second harangue ensued. If I make it to this one, I will bring a set of slicks, just in case
If anyone wants to say hello, I will be the guy with the Schumacher running dead last in every session. Thanks in advance for flipping my car back onto its wheels 90 times.

It's gonna be a slick tire track. Hard packed and glued.

How about everyone who goes to this race should ask that lady what tires to run, one at a time, just to drive her crazy.1911Colt wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 3:48 pm I am surprised to see "tires/wheels open" for all of the vintage classes. Make sure you set your car down with the knobbiest tires you have while asking said question to. And then we she finishes give her the 20 minute talk about how we used to run on "real" off-road dirt tracks.

If I read the different sets of rules correctly:
Edited to get my facts straight:
- Rear motor revival/catch-all class (RC10B4, etc.) at this race in March, and at the RC10Talk race in November will be 17.5
- But the same class at Thunder Alley in January will be 13.5 ??

Looks that way. Both stadium truck classes at Hoosier are 13.5 too. Only the revival stadium class is in NC.dldiaz wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 2:00 am If I read the different sets of rules correctly:

When there is a motor restriction and also a requirement that the ESC must be in blinky mode, does that more or less equate to running a HW Justock combo? Or is it still advantageous to have high end gear? Maybe the ESC doesn't matter much but a motor with adjustable timing is better?

Blinky mode provides no boost. It is advantageous to run an adjustable timing stock motor to get maximum performance. You can run a fixed timing motor but the static timing may not be optimized.

If we were running those rules at say the VONATS... I feel boosted 17.5 would 100% be just as fast as 13.5. I personally think 13.5 vintage truck would be a killer class!dldiaz wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 2:00 am If I read the different sets of rules correctly:

I went to the track tonight just to check it out. The track is super smooth and sticky. I could feel my shoes sticking as I walked.
The locals are running silver compound JConcepts Smoothie 2 slicks with foam (front p/n 4018-06; rear p/n 4017-06) and using SXT. I am sure other brands will work, too, but they just ran INS14, so there is a lot of JConcepts love in the air
Before tonight, I was thinking that someone out there is probably as bad a driver as I am, so, with practice and luck, I might not be guaranteed last place finishes. After tonight, though, those hopes are dashed. My new goal is to not injure any bystanders.

I would say the vintage classes are not as fast/precise as the modern/club races - remember a lot of us have seen the track before, and some of us (at least myself) drive somewhat carefully so as not to break too many vintage parts!
By The Way, what is INS14 ??
