Resistor Question For The Experts (Not RC Related)
I have a PS with an issue, and although I have purchased a [$400] replacement, I would love to see if I can fix this one on the cheap. Looking over the PCB, I see a couple of off-color joints that could maybe use some work, but then there is an obvious resistor issue. I know there are a few electronics guys in here as they are experts with ESCs, so figured I would ask here.
It is a typical axial resistor, and I am measuring the main body at 15.4mm, so I am guessing this is a 2W resistor? From reading, a 2W resistor should be 15mm +/-1.
It has four bands on it, and they look to be equally spaced, and on the thinner center section of it. I am seeing this as Red - Red - Orange - Gold. I am interpreting this as 22000 Ohms +/- 5%. Am I reading this correctly?
This PS is 15 years old, and lives outside. Would it make sense for a resistor like this to blow, and that be the only problem? Or is it more likely that there are other issues if this took place? If this is a cause or effect of other probable issues on the PCB, then I won't bother with it.
Thanks

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Far from an expert, but what's this?

Looks like a melted transistor, or blown cap - from here.
If you had the mfg. and model of this PS, might be able to find a schematic and figure out what's happening there.

yes, you are correct in your assumptions/investigation of the resistor. 22K, 5%, 2W axial. I suspect given the power rating and value it's part of the high voltage section, current carrying divider or something. Replacing that should bring things online if everything else checks out. you can unsolder one end (or remove altogether) and measure across it with a multimeter to see if it's been burned open.

In looking on the ol' Amazon, does it matter if I get a "metal film resistor," IE, the blue ones? Or do I need to stick to this type, which I am guessing is carbon film?
Is tolerance critical, or can I go to 1 or 2%? I would guess that I wouldn't want to go in the higher direction.
So many questions for such a simple part!!

Or the simple question, will this work? There is a 22K in there.

sorry I did not see this sooner, work has been busy and I haven't stopped back in to the forum till now.
I would get the exact replacement tolerance wise, price should not be significantly different. metal or carbon film does not matter for this application.
good luck!
