MIP Gearbox motor plate question?

Post by Jimarea51 »

Hi all,

Can Anyone help?? I have a MIP gearbox, but I'm not sure which motor plate fits it??

Is there one available or is it a case of making a standard one fit??

Any help would be great...

i'll get pics up in a little bit to show you what i'm talking about, but from the pics you posted, i can see that your trans case is pretty much worthless because someone cut the posts off the right case half to mount a motorplate. at least one of them anyway. i can't see behind the spur gear to see if the other one is gone, too.

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies, Only one of the mounting posts is missing so hoping that the others are going to be strong enough...

Any pics would be great...

Thats great, but does anyone have a pic with it mounted to a motor plate??

That way I can see how/where to modify the standard plate...

Cheers

JIm :)

you don't really have to modify the plate. what happens is when the plate is mounted to the case, it's turned counter clockwise slightly. so you have to drill and tap 2 new holes (above the original 2) where to rear chassis kickup/motorguard attaches to the motor plate.

You could use a spacer for the missing one... And FYI, you will most probably need to mill the bottom of the motor plate to make it fit and that will wipe off the bottom hole for the screw that retains the gear cover. I took out my MIP tranny from the graphite car because it was interfering with the Robinson Racing rear adjustable toe-in arm mount, so I'll try to find some time between two diapers and take a shot for you...
