Yokomo MX-4

Post by Konich »

So I just won this MX-4 Yokomo (always wanted a Yoke!) off ebay and want to restore it while parts are still available. Where are some good places to find parts for this? I'm really looking for wheels and a new body (perhaps to do a replica) and would like to order a bunch of replacement parts at once. Also for those of you that have this what are some parts I may want to stock up on? Anything to pay particular attention to with this model? As always, thanks again ahead of time.

I hope that by 'restoring' you don't mean taking it back to the all-original state.
That'd be a pitty in this case in my opinion.
Original MX-4 parts and body are available to US citizens from yokomo USA still it said in another mx-4 thread.

It has a Jammin' battery hold down and upgraded top deck. I may try running it for fun but want to get some parts coming to as my local hobby shop doesn't carry any. i|I'm interested to see how it will do vs. my B44. I've always wanted a Yoke and this was too good of deal to pass up. However, Yokomo USA doesn't have any parts listed (just drifting stuff) any other US suppliers besides E-bay?

Just got the car today and its in excellent shape. Everything is nice and smooth and the shocks feel like they've been rebuilt recently. Does anyone have any interior layout pics? I'm confused as to how the steering servo mounts. I'm going to start getting it setup this week so I can take it to the track. Thanks!

Most racers ended up just cutting off all the servo mount tabs and double stick taped it to the chassis or glued it with shoe-goo. I guess it depends on what battery configuration you want to use (4+2 or all 6 cells on the same side). With the 4+2 batt config. the servo goes on the left and the esc, receiver and motor on the right. With the 6 cells all on the left, everything else goes on the right to help balance things out. Its a tight fit, but you can get servo mounts in there without too much effort. Also, the MX-4 battery slots were designed to fit 2000-3000mah cells. I'm using 3300, 3700 packs in the side x side 6 cell configuration and had to file the slots larger and alter the battery brace, all for about an extra 1/8in. in order to get them to fit properly. Here is how mine is set up:

Thanks guys! I'm going to try to do a Orion Lipo on one side with the reciever, a 6.5, GTB and steering servo on the other. I found all my old Car Action magazines (89-97! can' believe my mom didn't throw them out yet) and in the December 97 they have Masami's prototype MX-4.
