I've got a worlds car on the way that I picked up on the bay. (WOW, I'm a poet) It looks to be in pretty good condition but I want to completly restore it to mint. I have most of the parts NIP to do this. The milled chassis has the usual scratches on the bottom and my question is how would I go about refinishing it? Are these powder coated or anodized like the gold chassis? I would think one would need to strip the old black finish, sand out/fill scratches, and recoat/anodize but I have no idea how or what to use to do this. Could the chassis be sand/media blasted? I think I will do the stripping and sanding but let the pro's do the coating/anodizing. Any suggestions on who does this?
Sorry for the many questions! I've seen what these things go for on ebay and I don't want to screw it up!!!
TIA, I look forward to what the experts have to say!
those chassis' are anodized. they can be glass/sand blasted, but your gonna spend a lot of time cleaning it up to get it ready to be reanodized. the best thing to use would be oven cleaner to strip it, then sand out all of the scratches. or vice versa.
Does anyone know how long it takes to sand scratches out of an aluminum tub?
Probably more time than its worth. In addition to thinning out the aluminum in areas.
I believe the anodizing on the WC chassis uses the Hard Anodized version of Anodizing. Speaking of which is not cheap. Theres a post around here about re-anodizing a WC chassis if you want to see before and afters.

I couldn't find it? Gotta link?
Thanks for the suggestions. NO, I won't be acid dipping it! I really want this one to be perfect. I plan on building another worlds for a runner and war wounds will be ok but this one is for the shelf.
I just got done preparing my chassis for anodizing. First I sand blasted it. Then i used a red sanding pad on my dye grinder to get all the big scratches out. Finally I sanded it with a random orbit sander with 120 and then 220 sandpaper. Total time was about 2 hours. Has anyone had anything anodized? I just got a bid for doing 2 chassis and nose pieces for $60. That seemed a little pricey, but I think it will be the best way to go.

I use a my grinder with a sanding disc. , I think it works good and it's fast.
And then hit with a finer sand paper wheel to get it nice and smooth.
