Glue aluminum to aluminum?

Post by THEYTOOKMYTHUMB »

Anyone have any suggestions on the best glue to use? I've had good luck with J.B. Weld, but maybe someone has a better idea?

Isn't it kinda like silicone? For this particular application I was looking for something stiff.
(And yes, that's what she said... )

JB Weld is always a great place to start, but (commence laughing) I've found that Mighty Putty works well on all kinds of materials, including aluminum.

No, Billy Mays did not put me up to this. :D

The stuff seems to get pretty stiff and hard to me. I've used it to glue a steel rod into the bed of a lexan truck body for strength and rigidity, the body disintegrated around the rods. When it was time to pitch the body I had to cut the glue to get the rods back. I don't think you'll have any trouble using it to connect two flat pieces of aluminum together.

I'll have to look into it. I'm not familiar with it, but I'd heard of it being used on lexan bodies to protect them. Then again, anything Billy Mays endorses has to be good!

You can get it at any supermarket, hardware store, or home center. If you'd prefer to have it delivered to your door, Towerhobbies carries it.

I remember one of our proffs explaining they use cyano glue to make alumimium constructions. The surfaces need to be well prepared ofcourse.

Maybe use the rubbery variant if you want the glue-connection a little more impact resistant as this type glue has stiff but brittle tendensies.

Now , if you have the space to drill a hole or 2,3,4 pop-rivets will do a great job and look clean too

All you need is a $2000 tig welder and an inverter lol  jk the magic putty amazingly actually works pretty well. I just take it to work to weld, but my aluminum welding still needs some work, I'm good on stainless though
