Re: Kyosho Optima Mid Custom Special.
Impressive car.
Even today, the Optima series, both rear and mid motor versions, have a profound look of purpose about them. Low and mean with wide rubber and spikes everywhere ...
... I got my brother a Turbo Optima Mid back in the day; he wasn't really a maintenace kind of guy, so it ended up moving from basement to basement through several moves and I haven't seen it in years. We had a JG monster truck conversion on it with those wild Kyosho-hex 2.2 JG monster truck rims. I have the rims right here ... I think that I need to go and see if I can find the car, even if just for those awesome Kyosho gold shocks!
Love the spaceship body on the Optima Mid Custom Special; reminds me of the TRX-1 body, on which I solidly come down on the "love" side of the "love-hate" relationship. I have a battered one here and it is a perfect fit on the Junior 2 / JRX-Pro-length chassis.
What is the wheelbase on the Optima Mid Custom Special? How badly would I have to hack up a repro to put it on a vintage Losi (long or short wheelbase)?

Re: Kyosho Optima Mid Custom Special.
Still- my 'Custom Special' project moves forward and is getting very close to completion.
So far I have sourced new-
2x Pairs of universal driveshafts
Medium length 'Option House' golds for up front
2.2" lazer ZXR rims
Lexan everything
Ball diffs
Extra rear shock mount plate
Full set of suspension arms
Ball cups and pillow balls
Belt
Internal gears and pulleys
Alloy rear wing mounts
Fr + Rr gearbox housings
Hot Laps TF310 + TR31's.
Bluebird servo
Tekin FX Pro esc
'Oz Racing' 12x1 motor
This car has been a long time in the making for me. Maybe not so much the build itself but getting my head around what I want in the end. Anyway here she is again kitted with Lipo saddle packs ready to go.
At some point I intend to find or make a taller front shock tower. Maybe another 10mm perhaps.

Re: Kyosho Optima Mid Custom Special.
I'm working on an optima-mid also, would have liked LWB but it took a definite turn to SWB. I see you're sticking with the original arms, so here's my question: what would be the advantages/disadvantages of swpping the originals for lazer ones? I can't make my mind up on which way to go.
