Well i finished my Lazer Zx at last.

This is going to be raced at the upcoming Vintage Festival in a months time.

After a short burst in my back yard i t felt so quick and agile . Way better than my Top Force EVO with the same electrics .

Only need to sort the gearing out a little better.

Thanks to all the help and advice from here.

Rick Howart was third in 89

Jack Johnsson was like third or something like that in 91 won one leg if i dot remember wrong.

Joel johnsson drove the only lazer in the A-final at the 93 worldchamp.

Coolest thing was the lazer that mike dunn drove it had special chassi and in built kickup god i would like to have more pictures of that car.

Synergy wrote:Really :P that must have been down to the drives but you would have thought after 20 years of being the best car available it would have won at least one world title. I guess the lack of world championship success doesn't mean it's not the best just like Jimmy White
May not have won the worlds but won pretty much everything else, euros, nationals, and even beat Masami at the Japanese nats after he won the worlds with the YZ10.

How many worlds and euros has the zx-5 won. Zero i beleive as it is crap. The zxr is so easy to use and hard to break which as you know is half the battle. Having shaft drive means you need a big wallet and a lot of patience.

Welshy you're a Lazer fruit cake

Don't get me wrong I for one love the Lazer platform (here's mine http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=72232&sid=18028) I remember racing mine with great fondness but to promote them as still the best car available for me is the talk of a man with a passion stuck in the past (like most of us I guess).

I now run a Tamiya DB01 and in my hands it out performs my Lazer on every measure, it's lighter, more sure footed, more resilient and faster, granted it's far from standard but it's far from the best car avaiable today also. Facts have got to be faced technology has move on, OK Kyosho may not be making the best of it with the ZX5 but other companies are.
Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

Fruit cake yes but my 511 was and still is slower than the zxr. Ive more steering than the 511 as well and also works better on carpet than the 511 plus can anyone say they have ever broke a wishbone on the zxr as you cant unlike tamiya and pretty much everyone nowadays due to the cheapness of materials and that includes the 511.

My zxr is different as ive redesigned it for lipo but the drive train handles the power with ease (I use a 5.5 x12 in mine) and also its a doddle to maintain unlike everything out there now. I do find the zxr is much nicer to drive and is better than anything else as development went backwards rather than forwards. Test the new and old together and you will be surprised with the result. I was.

Im planning a carpet event after the nats in surrey and aim to get a lot of lazer drivers down and yokomo and other vintage say up to and around 92 (when i designed my chassis) but havent yet decided on the rules and whats allowed and what isnt yet. Hope youll be up for a giggle.
