Only quitters quit!

I quit in '96 after 12 years. To this day I still get the occasional hankering, though I don't have any plans of taking it back up.

What I want to know is, how can anyone even afford to smoke anymore? $5 and up for a pack? You've got to be kidding me, that's enough reason to quit in it's own right.

they're around $6.00 a pack here. my wife smokes too, so between the both of us, we were spending quite a bit a month. so last year, maybe the end of 2010, we started rolling our own. the machine to do it cost $40 and it's a one time cost. after that, $16 for a large bag of tobacco, $4 for a box of 200 filters (one carton worth).

carton of my marlboro's - $54 (i think)
carton of cigarettes i rolled myself - $20

we saved alot of money each month. so now that i'm working on quitting, yes we're saving money, but not as much as you'd think.

With all the money you are saving, you can pick up all the cars FS in the BST section!

OR, perhaps taking up Heroin! Seems like the next choice in the drug progression. Start slow though, no need to rush anything.

All Kidding aside, I wish you the best. I've never really smoked or had the desire to (I do have an occasional Cigar) but for those that do and do it frequently, its a larger vice not easily conquered. All the best to you and the Mrs.

Quitting smoking is an awesome thing to do, congratulations. I quit over 20 years ago and it was the single most difficult thing to do, but oh what a feeling of accomplishment! Take a look at this chart that shows the benefits of quitting:

Congrats scr8p!

Its been a few years for me. I quit cold turkey too. I had quit another time before that, but a divorce and the ensuing stack of bills that accumulated from that made me start again.... But a few years ago I started hacking and coughing like crazy in the mornings every morning and it literally pissed me off enough I said said Phug it, I'm done. (Not really phug, :)) I haven't looked back and haven't had a single craving so I guess I was pretty mad! :)

2 years for me in june!

still got the nicotine habit tho, i just swapped cigs for the nicorette losenges.

had to be done, i got that freaking gum disease that only diabetics and smokers get. no fun.

i definitely feel better, and my lungs work like they should now. i cant believe i would wake up at like 4am every morning gasping for air and feeling my lungs stick together, and the only thing that would settle it down was another cig.
