Optima MKI restore!

The servo mount is a bracket that fits under the chain cover of the top deck.

Servo is then fitted with double side tape & a zip tie. On one of my Optima's the servo plate is made out of alloy but was hand made.

I will have a look for you to see if I have a spare.

Have you down loaded a manual for it???

Optima Pro set up will not suit a dirt track but on grass it will be good. Will it be a runner??

Mad, yes i have the mount, and know where it goes lol, i was just asking what possible part number it may have, as i cant find one at all on any plastic parts sets?
If you have a spare and dont need, ill buy it for sure. As for the Pro top deck, well, this will only be run on tarmac/astro, with very light use.

Good work up to now. I emailed quite a few anodisers in the UK, half couldn't help, the other half didn't reply! Someone out there could make a fortune re-colouring vintage RC shocks, I tell thee!

Nick, buddy i saw your box art, you smarty pants lol, its lovely. Im being a bit of a chicken and farming out the paint job on my Marwan, but, the grunt work is all me lol.
I pondered re anodizing, but, ah, all the hassle, i just tracked down new shocks and various other parts. Itll not end up a 100% brand new shelfer, but the end result should be very pretty.
Im popping for some Pargu alloy wheels it seems, NO joy on OE rims, so these will do, there very nice, and im sure will be fine for my light running.

Well finally a bit of progress with this. Its a battle for parts, but, most of what you see here is new, so i kinda cheated lol.
More to come soon, should have my boxart shell very soon too.

Hehe, they are on right now as the arms that came are poop, and, i cant get hold of any NIP MKI arms. Hoping i can in time Dennis, at least for now the MID arms work having the same geometry, so, ANYBODY with NIP Optima arms, yeah, im your guy, i need them LOL.

Looks great, ralphee, and you got the chain on right (with the link open ends facing outwards)...it's a common mistake that I've made myself before realizing too late I just made another few hours' work for myself to disassemble everything and put the chain on right!

Heh, yeah, i made sure of that, its a lot of work to put right, though is it me, or do Kyosho's instructions tell us to put the front arms on incorrect?
I noticed it right away as the shafts wont line up.......crazy. I did have to drop a link out the chain, but otherwise its a working clean drivetrain.....id say smooth, but, not by todays standards lol.

The Turbo wheels will have to do as i cant get a set of white std wheels, did get offered some by Bullfrog on here, but then he vanished, so, nevermind, ill live lol, tyres are temp placeholders from Tamiya, while i await my Kyosho ones.
Bodyshell is almost ready to ship back to me, cant wait to see that, and, on a good note, ive picked up NIP front and rear MK1 arms, and, a NIP servo mount plate, just need to fit them.
Missed out on some chain covers the other day as i was working as i got outbid lol, but, im not too fussed about those as this isnt quite a special as my YZ10......and will not now be run anyhoo.

ralphee, I remember before when you were asking about some original white Optima wheels, but you were looking for NIP wheels. I think you'll be very hard-pressed to find original Optima/Javelin wheels in NIP condition...I *do* have a set of white Optima wheels & rings that are in good condition, but are slightly used. I would rate them ranging from a 7 to a 9 out of 10. I don't have tires, though (but those you can buy repros of). If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you some pictures this weekend.

The instructions are correct...but pay close attention to the steering knuckles & C-carriers; the latter are angled and there are left & right parts. If you reverse them, they'll physically fit but the geometry will be off. Furthermore, I noticed that your front arms aren't original Optima arms; they're from an Optima Mid maybe, as the Optima/Turbo Optima arms don't have that hole in the middle for the stabilizer ball; the stabilizer mounts to ball studs bolted into holes at the rear of the arms.

I'm not sure if the Optima Mid arms have different dimensions & geometry than the Optima/Turbo Optima arms.
