Wahey, finally managed to get the user name i use everywhere else so goodbye kyosho fan2.

Ive done a complete ratio with a site, i will find it for you and post the link. Fyi all but one kyosho driver used a 100 tooth spur gear, Bob Gammon liked the 99 tooth on carpet.

Heres what i wrote on Oople forum.

Ok ive worked out the internal ratio and have an exact ratio chart to the Kyosho manual and is 2.214:1 and used a 100t spur and 17t pinion so gives you a range from pinion size 10 to 25 for a cariety of spur sizes so should be enough for all.

So if you use a gear ratio chart like this you have all the info you need to make it. http://www.gearchart.com/index.cfm?f...n=chart.create

It also depends on the tire diameter of the tires you plan to use, that's another important factor in the rollout equation.

Assuming you're using tires with a "typical" 2.2" wheel size & diameter--say about 88 or so millimeters--and a 100T spur, you might want to consider trying a 20 or 21T pinion gear. What is the stock spur gear size on a Lazer ZX, and what are you planning to use?

100t is the only spur gear made by Kyosho. Having proline tyres or schumacher the car goes well with the same ratio.

Easy

5.5 use 21
6.5 use 22 and so on

Be warned youll snap the rear belt as no tensioners were designed in the rear gearbox. I have however done a proto type rear carbon fibre gearbox with tensioners and can handle easily a 4.5 so will use the proto as a template to get a new gearbox designed and will be available to buy. You will need a front belt tensioner and that I have no idea what youll want to use but have designed a cf L plate for use with a tensioner.

What was the stock pinion gear size for the Lazer ZX? It's for a spreadsheet gear ratio/rollout ratio calculator I'm compiling. Thanks!

Standard pinion is 20T for the ZX with 88T spur, 0.6 module gears.
Standard pinion for ZX-R is 22T with 100T spur, 48dp gears.

Thank you very much, Terry. The actual transmission ratio on the Lazers is indeed 2.214:1? And lastly, I'd appreciate to confirm the tire diameter of the Lazer tires. I imagine they're in the neighborhood of 90mm?

The pulley sizes are 31/14, which is 2.2143. Can't help with original tyre sizes though, mine aren't as easy to get at as my Lazer spares.

Awesome. If anybody can measure the diameter of a new Lazer ZX or ZX-R tire, from the tip of one spike to the tip of an opposite spike, that would be greatly appreciated.
