Build, restore, tune, tinker, hack. I drive for fun, but I don't "bash" as the term is currently used.

Thanks GH, I voted accordingly. :) Looks like it's a popular option.

Serious racer, with a modest collection of builds.

Can't tick one choice as I could be described as all of them.

Racer - every week at my local club, and at national level.
Basher - several times a year I'll meet up with a few mates to throw a few trucks and buggies around the beach or on road chassis around a car park.
Collector - see my signature, way too many.
Builder - run many home made parts and even complete home built cars, and over the years have literally built many hundreds of kits.

I think 1/2 "runner" 1/4 builder 1/4 collector since I don't officially race. I don't really feel I fit the typical basher label, I think simply "runner" would be more appropriate. I say this since we build tracks to test and run on with the occasional non-formal races and that creates structure and care is taken into consideration. "Basher" simply implies the complete opposite which is no stucture, whatever and wherever with no care or consideration haha  Anyone with me on this

Deff a racer foremost - I race at least once during the working week (sometimes twice) & at weekends also... to be honest keeping the two racers maintained (I race both on-road with a touring car & 2wd Off Road) takes up quite a bit of spare time so leaves little for working on the vintage stuff. I used to race at National & Regional level but the travelling & dedication required was just too much - I now just race at a local club level but have been enjoying my racing more than ever - mostly helped by the social aspect with the good friends that I meet up with & race against.

I’m sure a lot of us do “all of the above” to some extent (I do).

I've just noticed some of the vintage builds are very much derived from the category you fall in. Example; racer replica builds (no expense spared and perfect in every detail) are mostly done by guys that are from that era and either raced or really wanted to race, most of these cars will never see any use. And on the other end there’s the budget build sporting an over-motored “mamba max” system and “road hawg” tires built purely for beating the snot out of and enjoying, these guys typically have no interest in ever owning a shelfer. It’s just an observation and in the end as long you’re having fun it’s all good.

Every time I try to build a basher it ends up looking too nice and gets put on a shelf.

yup, i'm like that.

i'd love to do some sweet shelf builds but i spend all my $$ on my race cars.
i race almost everything i own at some point during the year.
i do have one shelfer in the making, a LTO rc10 variant, but it's been years in the makeing. but i bet once it's done i'll find a way to race it. lol

By that reasoning, your race cars should be on a shelf too. :D
