Re: MMV Challenger: Turbo Optima build - Project Barney
Coelacanth,
I have two vintage purple shocks (see this pic).
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=22557
They are in great shape and they were on an Optima. They are actually the same length as front golds. I figured out that they are from a Composite Craft Lynx II. Pm me an offer if you want them (you know I'm fair). Great looking parts lot so far!
Take care,
RG

Hi rangerg, thanks for the offer! I'm not planning on the shocks being purple, though.

Ha, no problem. I like the purple, so I may put them on my runner. My college colors were purple and white.

Well, I've got my anodizing all lined up. It's gonna be cheaper than sending it to Korea (pargu2000), much better communication (no language barrier) and closer, less turn-around time. The business stays in North America too (USA). If that all weren't enough, it'll actually be cheaper than sending it all to Korea, and a HELL of a lot cheaper than using a local anodizing service here (about $100+ per color -
).
If the samples are any indication, it'll be very grapey and limey!

Those rear uprights are familiar...but weren't they blue?
Looking at Barney, I have one important, essential question: Will the body feature eyes and a mouth, and will the wheels be gold?

They indeed were! I ended up using Lazer hubs for CYANide to narrow the rear track, so your original blue ones will be used for this car.EvolutionRevolution wrote:Those rear uprights are familiar...but weren't they blue?![]()

No, no & no.Looking at Barney, I have one important, essential question: Will the body feature eyes and a mouth, and will the wheels be gold?

So if the shocks won't be purple.. are you going for Ansmann's green shocks?

Re: MMV Challenger: Turbo Optima build - Project Barney
Nope, they're Kyosho Golds that I de-anodized & wet-sanded/polished, and will hopefully have the same green anodizing as the previous picture.
And wait'll you see the springs I managed to find...

Re: MMV Challenger: Turbo Optima build - Project Barney
Guys, I'm trying to decide which tire set would be the best for offroad & bashing--not so much for racing. I'm looking for good offroad traction & durability. I've narrowed things down to four choices that all have similar specs. Have a look at these four, please offer your suggestions on which sets you like best. Thanks for your advice!

Anodized parts received!
16 views and no suggestions?
I received my parts from Don, the guy who did the anodizing. For the most part, everything turned out spectacular! A few parts didn't take the anodize so well, the 2 round-tube spanners were kind of spotty, but those are hardly noticeable anyway.
I also found the perfect set of wheels--Barney's gonna be a beast!

Re: MMV Challenger: Turbo Optima build - Project Barney
the first option doesn't look like a good all-rounder to me. The goosebumps and responses look as if they'd be better suited than the calibers for the kind of debris you 'd encounter off-circuit. Just going from looks though: I have no experience with any of them.
Be sure to get the right compound also for where you'd run most: the same thread can behave very different for a different compound. Some compounds work better when it's damp, others when it's hot...
Which car are those alu carriers and steering knuckles from?
