I started the tear down this morning, this thing sure was dirty! Guess I'm just anal with my things but I've never had an item this dirty lol. I pulled the top plate off and cleaned it up only to discover a crack at the front of it. I didnt bother to order the chassis/top plate combo because this one looked to be in pretty good shape but some dirt masked the crack completely. WE SUCK AGAIN  Oh well, back on the hunt for some more parts.

Was able to find a new motor plate from an online hobby shop for $4.95. Kyosho site had the upper rods/ends so I ordered them up too. I'll have this old heap in nice shape pretty quick. Most things are actually cleaning up pretty nicely.

Can part # WBD-4 (diff rings) be used with the ball diff in the Turbo Ultima? They arent listed or shown in the manual.

Tear down complete! While the original owners lack of maintenance was disheartening initially, it actually came with a benefit. It doesnt look like a single screw was ever removed from the vehicle to work on anything and because so, all of the unexposed screws are in near perfect condition. The motor screws are an exception to that, one is great and the other is unusable for my purposes.

Any recommendations on which white to use for a good match to the box art color?

Enough of the parts arrived over the last couple days that I just couldnt resist staying away any longer. The diff balls and rings havent shown up yet (probably tomorrow) so I left the diff out of the trans and continued on with the build. The new shock towers (reason the rear sway bar wasnt installed) and top plate should arrive some time next week and hopefully the body gets here pretty soon so I can button the project up. I'd like to find a set of new front wheels but I have a pair that will do until that time comes.

Sweet. I used pactra white on my restore years ago. Don't think it really matters though since everything is in the decals. ;)

Repro body arrived today from Marwan (only took a couple days via DHL!); cant wait to spray it up. Will probably have to wait until the weekend but the rest of the parts should be here around then as well so no big deal :)

Looks really nice, madweazl. I wonder how some guys' tear-downs can look so neat & tidy? 1 day into a build, my work area looks like a disaster zone.

Got the body cut, painted, and stickered but I'm still waiting on the new top plate, shock towers, wing mounts, and pressure plates to arrive (hopefully they arrive before the weekend) so I can finish it off. I also need to find a red-orange suitable to paint the vertical stabilizers of the wing so I can finish it up but I couldnt resist checking it out with the body mounted. I also need to pull the front tires off these wheels and mount them to the near new wheels I picked up last week. I had to source the new in package parts from all over the world to include: Dubai, Australia, Germany, Japan, and all over the US. Both projects were an absolute blast to work on and you really appreciate the effort it takes to track down all the parts once you've completed one.

Wow! That looks beautiful. Fantastic work!

I figure I'd throw a pic of mine up for fun. The only thing I did different from the stock kit is add the turnbuckle set.

What color red did you use on the wing? That is probably the toughest thing I have left to do.
