Re: My Andy's Build

I had the smaller Andy's bumper on it and it just didn't look right. Maybe when i get the body done, i could try the smaller one again to see how it looks. I found this bumber on ebay and it is for body mounting.

Can someone tell me if I should trim my body before or after paint? It's been 20 years since I've done one. Thank you

There's no single right or wrong way to trim and paint a lexan body. For me, because I'm concerned about scratching the paint, I've always fully trimmed and fitted the body and wing before applying paint. Being able to see through the body makes it a little easier for me to trim it accurately.

Also, there is this thread...

That is a good thread. I think I will trim first. The body has protective coating. I have some pinstripe tape, and I thought it would be good to lay down some lines. My paint scheme will be mostly silver, with blue, pink & black accents. I still need to buy paint, going with rattle can on this one.

The protective coating on lexan RC bodies is a great idea (we didn't have that bitd). Not only does it protect from over-spray, it makes it convenient to sketch-out a design directly on the coating, make adjustments, etc. The back portion of my Kyosho Optima (TOMS) body is painted matte black on the exterior and I was able to use the protective coating as masking; it worked really well, left a nice clean paint edge, etc.
I don't mean to be condescending but you'll need to use paint that's meant for lexan; ordinary rattle can paint from Walmart for instance won't stick. Also, I've tried Dupli-color (lacquer based automotive paint) and it doesn't work either.

A very nice build.
I also have one of the Andy's steering racks -- a very unique design.

You're welcome. I'm glad I could get you those two parts. I look forward to seeing a painted body on it.

I truly appreciate all of the deals we've made over the past couple of months.

I’m surprised you didn’t go with a custom painted Andy’s body

I might end up doing that. He is putting some very nice looking bodies on Ebay (its all I can do not to buy a couple of 10T bodies). I have some extra unpainted RC-10 buggy bodies, so maybe I will check the fit. If it doesn't fit well, I will use the Yokomo YZ-10 body because it does follow the lines of the chassis pretty well. It will be a little closer to spring before I am able to paint. My garage gets pretty cold this time of year and for some reason the wife wont let me paint indoors...

Decided to use the YZ-10 body, the RC-10 body just didn't fit right. I like the way this body sits low on the chassis.
