This is where I am at!
DSC08845.jpg
BUT! This is my dilemma!

I can put all the weaker first gen parts on it! (Thin towers, RC10 suspension mounts and hub carriers, and dogbones! )
DSC08843.jpg
Or! I can keep the stronger (late gen) suspension mounts, thicker towers, and universals!
DSC08844.jpg
I still do not know what to do!....?????

that's where I was at too....I'm keeping it old school with the exception of the dog bones. Simply because dog bones are such a pain to go looking for when the fly out into the grass somewhere, so I'm going with the universals.

Are you going with new electronics, or old? I'm thinking of using Lipo, because of the run time and brushless because of lower maintenance. I guess if you are going for light usage than you don't have to worry about it too much. I guess you could consider the electronics that Cliff Lett used too.

I'm with Vintage on this one. Since it's gonna be a runner I'd go with the heavy artillery. IMHO

I have decided to make it as close to a copy to Cliff Lett's truck as I can! And I will run it hard with chassis tape. BTW, the original truck used Light Speed chassis tape.

I purchased some aluminium screws from http://www.fastener-express.com/

Great deal on the screws, but my ass was bleeding after the $17.00 shipping charge for a tiny package!

I got all the screws in packs of 50, I'm sure I will use the others later! (If you buy any, make sure you get the silver anodized ones, they look much better than plain!)
DSC08846.jpg
The later towers were much heavier at 20.1 g and the early towers were 13.7g. I know Associated wanted to make them stronger, but as a racer, I would much prefer the lighter weight. Especially up high on the chassis!

Late towers

Early Towers

Notice how thick the late towers are!.....Yes, that is my micro digital scale, every upstanding household should have one! Just joking, I used it in the past for weighing parts for my racing slotcars!

So I changed to the first gen thin towers, the weaker original RC10 rear suspension mounts and 1.5 deg RC10 rear hubs!
DSC08883.jpg
I put in all the aluminium screws as well!

Thanks guys! It's a date VAE!

I have been working on this truck for most of yesterday and have now got the shocks and tranny put in place! I cut down some of the 1" aluminium screws to the correct length for the 3 piece wheels. I put in an old but fully restored Reedy Mr motor as well!

Can anyone tell me where Cliff mounted the antenna on the back of his truck, and how? http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=172

So I got the antenna mount info from scr8p on another post. It was mounted on the rear shock tower with zip tyes, 4 holes were drilled to do this. I will have to remove the tower again so I can do this!

This seems a shame but I have to do it! It's a near mint motor mount!
DSC08892.jpg
DSC08893.jpg
Of course! An hour after making the final cut on the mint plate, I find a beat up black motor plate sitting on the back of my work bench! :x :x :x :( Damn Murphy's Law!

It seems that Mr Cliffy did not like to run the felt gasket on the Stealth transmission! Not sure why?
DSC08894.jpg
Tranny all in place. Another shame, the ears on the MINT rear body mounts will have to be cut to make it look right (the originals were machined not molded).
DSC08897.jpg
I had to yank off all the dust foamies as I did not want to stress the ball cups any further by removing them!

This is me shortening my long aluminium screws to the correct length for the three piece wheels.
DSC08900.jpg
I don't think Cliff used a body pin in his battery strap screws, but for safety, I will! So I carefully drilled out the hole for the body pin. The screws are aluminium as well!

Rod, no aluminum screws were used in Cliff's rear wheels- and............they won't hold up if you try-

Just a heads up   I prob have a used rear mount so you don't have to cut the new ones too-

Thanks scr8p, but I think he used a 410 M1c. I only have a 410 M1 that I was going to use but if you have a 410 M1c I would be very interested!

Cds, thanks for the offer on the mounts but I will just hack these! They are not that rare...I hope? As for the screws, I can clearly see aluminium in the downloaded article that I was able to magnify 200%. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=172
