Found some VERY old photos of my original Mini Mustang.... so here's one to show what I used to run back in the day.....

Was pretty much stock single speed, except for upgrade wing mount and wing, Hotshot rims with Eagle Racing Yokomo-copy tyres. Motive power was a Technigold, so went like stink even on 1200s and 1700s!!!

'ECO' was a particular PB model. Basicaly an even more pov version of the mini Mustang. I think Alex must have been trying to throw off the competition with it on the side of the Mustang bodyshell.

Nice try, Jason, but as usual, way off...

The kit I got was labeled as an Eco, and so had Eco decals..... but it had a proper Mini Mustang body, and proper Mini Mustang bearings. Thankfully.

And yes, Eco is short for Economy.

great thing about the gold rims was, back in the day when I bought them, they were the same price as the white Hotshot / etc. rims....

Bad thing about those wheels, gold aswell as white ones: they would warp like hell and wobble terribly.
I bought some eagle racing material in Japan last year. Had no idea they've been around so long.
Just lately I saw another copy of those yokomo tires: I think it was by carson. Unfortunately rather expensive and only rears.

From what I can remember about the ECO was it was realieased after the Maxima.

It was cheaper than the original mini mustang and i thought it had a different shell.

To me i thought it was to get rid of the old Mini Mustang kits.

Im sure Alex will correct me if im wrong.

Oh yes Alex a Technigold in a mini mustang was awsome especially when hooked with the 2 speed.

Thats what i was up against with my lonely MID.

Schumacher did much the same thing with their Club10 kits. Took what was left from the original Cougar, cheapened it then sold kits to make extra $$$ for jam.
While the manufacturers claim to release these kind of kits for the novice or club racer we all know its so they can move an obsolete item.

Man...what a great thread!
I grew up racing R/C's in the 80's in...of all places, Alaska.....where cars like this were NEVER seen. A Cat or Yokoma was even a rare site at our local race track.
Good to see these rarer cars restored and driven.

What a drama!!! I was beginning to think this car was a real pile of crap. Ive been having troubles with the drivetrain slipping and after stripping this car down atleast half a dozen times and rebuilding it with new parts each time I finaly worked out what was going wrong.
I swapped out the the tensioner bearing for a bearing with 1mm larger O.D. so as to stop the belt slipping over the teeth of the layshaft pulley.This works very well and should allow the car to run less tension on the drive belt thus making for a free'er drivetrain overall. After adding a new belt aswell the drive train was still slipping and Ive been raking my brain to work out what it was. After chatting with Alex (Incredible_serious) who refuses to let me give up on this car he meantioned the diffs. Im such a goose! After all this time I never thought to check the geared diffs. While the front was solid the rear was shagged! I cant believe i didnt think to check these. All this time I thought the belt was slipping but in the end the rear diff had so much wear in it and was skipping not just under load but especialy powering out of a turn- DOH!! I guess there's always stuff to learn when it comes to the older cars-
After rebuilding this car for the very last time i was rewarded with a car that drives very smoothly with thanks to a layshaft Tony sent me. Now fitted with a slipper and 48dp gears I think this car stands half a chance at making a competitive vintage racer-
