is there any advantage using the "HPI D-box" in off-road race ??.......
According to Michael:
" This "drift-thing" is the HPI Drift Assist. It´s a gyro connected to the steering-servo. It helps to drive on slippery tracks."
I don't know if its legal or not, might be helpful in a club race. He claims it helps to prevent oversteer in certain track conditions. Might be worth looking into.
Heres the link for HPI: http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/80588/
"With offroad vehicles, the Adjustable Stability Control System helps you concentrate on driving to the next turn as it keeps the vehicle running smooth through obstacles such as rough ruts. Hitting ruts at an angle would normally pull the steering off the intended path and your late counter reactive steering input would have you “flopping all over” when you initially just wanted to go straight. With the assistance from the Adjustable Stability Control System, The steering automatically reacts and keeps you on the straight and narrow, which is the fastest line from point-A to point-B."
Hey Michael,
New guy here but wanted to say that the slammed look is very cool. Like said before its a modern vintage look and it has its own category. Been looking thru the old threads around here and see quite a few wanting to do the cutdown thing and copy yours and you said it here that it flexes more now. How much more of a chance at bending the chassis do you have with it cut down this much? I want to make a couple runners but I want to be able to have the abuse factor set on high also. Don't know if there is gonna be any vintage racing around me to validate making this worthwhile to do but would like to keep my options open.
I know Michael isn't the only one to do this on this board so I hope to hear from as many people as possible to get as many opinions as possible. Thanx
Todd
Peace and professionlism.....Kabunga signing off!!!
The HPI-Drift Assist is the same one than the FUTABA-Gyro for Planes/helis. And the Futaba one is much cheaper than the HPI.
Like I said, that thing helps a lot to prevent oversteering on slippery tracks. I remember I drove my car with wasted tire around the track and the handling was pretty well. After I disconnected that thing and I only could make donuts on the track. Undriveable!
I germany that thing is forbidden on races, because it works so good. I remember a friend of mine was the last 4WD (!!!)-German Champion (1999) that was allowed to use this Gyro-System in a GM APC-Speedo. Everybody in the Finals used this system! And that was a 4WD-Class on a high-gripp, but ultra-bumpy-track. After this race, all gyro-based electronic helper was forbidden.
klavy: Thank you very much! Yes the chassis will get much more flex in longitudinal direction. And it´s possible, that the chassi will bend after a while, like a banana. Depents, your driving-skills. My chassis is bended a little. I only ignore this issue.
Masamis cut-down-cars have some extra stiffeners left and right from the battery. That could prevent bending a little. But I dont like the look of that.
I cutted my chassis mostly for the look and to slam the body down. Because the extra-flex you have definitely a little more traction with the car.
