Re: cat content...and other cars
can you show another picture of the car in the back?
(the body on it belongs to the car in the front at the right by the way)

Re: cat content...and other cars
unfortunately not as the cars and I are not in the same country. I recall it being a 1st generation Kyosho Lazer that came out just after the optima mid lwb. I guess you can call it a shelf queen as it has never seen a servo let alone touched dirt. The cat xls in the middle...which needs a pair of non-noodly(sp?) rear arms is flanked by a couple of srb chassis despite the holiday buggy body.

Re: cat content...and other cars
Update:
Parents managed to bring the car over from their place, so here's a few pics of my old CAT. I think it started out as a swb but was converted to an xls by the original owner who I bought it from. It appears to have the mms rear diff conversion too. No 'bay in those days and this was located through ads in a r/c mag. Bit of a leap of faith on hindsight.
a few bits missing as you can see
shocked myself when I lifted the lid off. Been so long ago, I totally forgot that I had made this saddle pack conversion. Can't remember if they had an official saddle pack chassis out or not at the time, but would not have been able to afford it with my student budget so I made this instead. Have no idea what type of Al it is as it was just picked up off the scrapyard. Not very pretty but my first (and only) home brew chassis. Quite pleased at the time as only a junior hacksaw, file and a drill were used to make it.
Oh, few other bits that were not from the original CAT. The shocks were great but the nylon rear arms were just rubbish. You could feel the thing flexing just by looking at it. The arms were replacement for the original one I broke. Now need to look for another set to get this going again. Oh, if anyone has a set of rear kyosho platinum shocks going cheap let me know!

I had a set of those nylon rear arms on my Cougar/Top Cat - much better than the original items... unfortunately I cannot remember who made them (a 'Top Models' part perhaps?)Jay Dub wrote:What rear arms are those?

Re: cat content...and other cars
Call me a fashion victim, with all the recent mid motor conversions, I thought why not? But seriously with bormac's advice on weight distribution of the Topcat - sorry, can't find the thread but see the last pic of this thread http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=16248&p=158327&hilit=bormac+topcat#p158327

Maybe a mid mount Topcat would be a good idea. (Thanks to Yorak and Ndarby for all the bits).

there won't be a lot of space to put battery, servo and esc with this config though. Perhaps I need to tap out new holes and move the gearbox back a wee bit? Mmmm. Have to wait and see about that.
Oh, since I am still collecting bits for my eventual fwd effort (needing a donor B4 gearbox or two here)...

I checked the height of the cat gearbox and the X factory one. I will probably need to either remove a bit from the chassis to clear the drive shafts or to mount it a bit higher so that it's the same height as the original. I think I would probably prefer the latter solution.

It is crazy the amount of memories that come rushing back into you head when you pull out an old car from the past!
