A possible alternative to servo tape

Post by THEYTOOKMYTHUMB »

I bought some of this stuff to hang a picture frame and it is freaky strong and peels away clean. It is a lot stronger and has no fuzzing effect like velcro. Might be handy to someone who needs to switch out receivers or escs a lot. I bought it at Lowe's, but you can probably get it anywhere. Mine was yellow, but I think this is the same. I think one strip holds up to like 20 pounds. I believe it after peeling it apart.

that Command stuff is ok but my motorspray weakens it... wouldn't be using it for servos

if you want strong checkout 3M VHB, or the clear silicone doublesided tape - i'd trust those to hold up mirrors in your bathroom!!

VHB is repackaged and sold by Parama--

I use VHB for all servos'
I did this to one of my nitro cars during a test and tune at a very tacky track, absoutley destroyed the entire front end when some goof left a loop of zip tie on the outer wall, the car went from 40mph to zero in 1 foot, chassis, arms, bulkhead, towers etc--------but the servo was still in place

VHB is bein sold at Homedepot the rubber stiky substance is grey and teh film is red.
The same film is being rebranded inteh car industry for Bumper accent panels Grey sticky piece and red cover tape.

Walmart and Home depot costs about 5 bucks for small roll 10 for Huge one.
It sticks hard and when you take it off it doesnt leave dum resdue back. that you have ot rub off.

VHB has its uses but seriously, servo mounting isn't one of them - servos are a
mechanical actuator and it needs a solid mechanical mounting = posts+screws

If you want your servos stuck on that hard, use ShoeGoo :) it won't flex
yes it needs overnight-24hrs to cure properly, but so does a proper VHB bond

For most stuff... i use the black auto/all-weather foam tape where vibration protection is required.

For heavier stuff (ESC with big heavy heatsink & fan) i might use the 3M clear silicone tape.

Degrease both surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and they'll stick as strong as you ever want.

+1 on the VHB, BrandonG told me about this stuff a few months ago. it works great for servos and anything else. I forgot the battery strap for my team car one race day, I used 2 one inch strips to hold my battery in, it is still holding strong after 4 race days. And I crash a lot! lol
