Here's the manual for a T-4, if that helps, they don't go back any further... :

Oops, they do have the NESC 1-X

is it a NESC4 or a T4? I'm pretty sure all novak esc's powered the radio. Looking at their time line http://www.teamnovak.com/timeline/timeline_1/index.html that esc came out in 1985 so I'm sure it does

I believe the official names from Novak were the T1, T1x and T4. They were categorized by the prefix NESC (Novak Electronic Speed Control). They were all out at the same time, and offered different levels of power support and on resistance.
We ran stock class forever, so we used the T4s with great success. I remember getting my first Novak speedo and installing it. Most people forget the inline spade fuses that we all had to rig into the system, plus all of the capacitors and diodes and everything else to make them work correctly.
Those orange speedos were a monumental product in my R/C history.

they also made a standard 4 besides the T4. It came out in 85 and lasted till 88. Here look at the Novak timeline link..

I thought it was the Rx that determined BEC. After all, isn't the job of the esc to simply send a voltage to the Rx. It does not care if it is plugged into channel 2 or BAT. My 1X (BTW, thanks for the manual speed) works either way, power and signal to one channel or with a split plug (signal on 2, power on BAT).
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.

way back when, yes you needed a reciever that was able to handle the extra voltage put out by the esc lead. Now most recievers can handle the extra voltage with no problem.Tadracket wrote:I thought it was the Rx that determined BEC. After all, isn't the job of the esc to simply send a voltage to the Rx. What Flyin GN was concerned with is whether or not the esc powered the radio. some really old esc's only did the speed control part and you still needed an external battery pack. If I recall though it was only the really cheap esc's though.
