870C Hinge Pins

Post by Justjoe »

Ok I have a question on hinge pin replacement. I got my new YR4 bulkheads and a new set of lower control arms but I cant find any original pins for this thing. I reamed my old bulkheads and arms to RC10 size 1/8" but I dont want to do this with all the new stuff. I am trying to make a new/custom car and want to stay with the stock pin size. anybody got a good source for original or a substitute (same diameter, I can cut the length and grove if needed) pin set for the 870C.

Thanks
Joe

depending on where you are, there are lots of places that sell 3mm steel or titanium. metal distributors, etc, there are alot online.

mcmaster carr is what I typically use. They have 3mm steel for sure, not sure about titanium, but I've gotten 1/8" titanium grade 5 for super cheap, and cut my own hinge pins.

you can get drill blanks which are hardened, cut them to length, and use grooveless c-clips that don't require a groove as well.

I have a NIP set of RCPS #650 titanium hinge pins for the YZ10. The pins come with their own drill bit to ream out the arms to the perfect size. PM me if you would be interested.

I assume that when you say groovless you are talking some kind of push nut? I have notices on some of the cars there are what look loke rod ends with a turnbuckle adjustable link on the end of the inner hinge pins, does anybody know the purpose behind this?

this is an example:

http://www.huyett.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_40&products_id=111

looks like a heavy duty snap ring.

some of the yz10's had an additional brace for the caster blocks, since they tended to be weak. a brace went from either the steering bolts, or the front bulkhead(not sure) with another strut link to the top of the caster block. i think it was an option part
