Thread pitch for Technacraft turnbuckles

Post by RichieRich »

Hey guys. I'm not a technacraft expert so I have a few questions. I got a partial set from a recent find...just fronts. They seem to have a different thread pitch than the Lunsfords or stock turnbuckles that I'm used to. Does anyone know what it is? Also, what type of ball cup do you use with these? The RPM standard one or maybe even the Lunsford ones? (For some reason, I have tons of the Lunsford ones :) )

I might be misunderstanding(I usually am  ), but the cups don't have an internal thread to begin with do they? Doesn't the initial installation create the groove? So I think as long as the rod isn't too large or small to make a secure fit then either would work ok. Not a direct technical answer, but just my take on it.

I'm pretty sure the standard size turnbuckles are 4-40 and the heavy duty versions are 5-40 or 6-32. I'm not sure what size threads the Lunsford/current turnbuckles are though.

The reason I asked is I didn't want to crack any ball cups. I'm thinking the turnbuckles are 6-32. Lunsford Punisher turnbuckles are 3mm.

The Technacraft turnbuckles I have for my 10T are 5-40, definitely thicker than 4-40. And the 4-40 of the stock turnbuckles actually isn't 4-40; it's 4-48, for a finer adjustment.

Late model Associated blue titanium and Lunsford Punishers are all 3mm left and right-handed threads that self-tap into any standard ball cup. Original RC10 threaded linkage was 4-40 threaded rod. Losi turnbuckles were all 4-40 threads. Thorp, Lunsford, RCPS and Tecnacraft made turnbuckles for the original RC10s with 4-40 (and some then later in 5-40) threaded right and left hand threads.

Honestly, I've never heard of anyone using a 4-48 thread on any American turnbuckle or any R/C car part, for that matter.
