My Scorchin Hornet...

Post by MonsterBeetleGuy »

I picked this vintage Hornet at a local auction for $15...It came as front and rear ends but no chassis tub. It came with a few pairs of spare rims and tires too and a cool old pit box. I ordered a re-re tub and had it back in rolling shape.

Mocked up with an old Monster Beetle lid i had

I then installed new Parma VW lexan body...a S&K Ironman motor

Well I like them. Very nice looking bugs. One day, I hope to add one to my (small) collection.
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.

cool collection,
and those subaru brat tires really are great!

I wonder if those tires will be available again with the re-release?
I cut the inner rib out and used them on 2.0 wheels back in the days.

The tires on this one are actually AJ's...the rears are quite a bit taller and wider than the stock Brat tires. The fronts are AJ's as well but closer to Brat sized...Thanks for the comments!

Nice collection you got there, I really like the look of the beetle too, probably the most popular car in the world... if you ever want to part with the buggy silver rims and tires, let me know

That looks great. I have always like the bettle body on the hornet chassis and always wondered why Tamiya didn't do a bug body on the hornet or frog chassis.

It's irrestable putting bug bodies on different chassis - just to see if it works!

What mounts did you use to fit the parma shell?

the front body mount is just a standard black nylon post. The rears are some leftover Monster Beetle rear mounts I had still on a tree. They need mounted up a little higher as it wobbles a lot, but is still a hoot to drive!

Here's a pic.

That radiogear on the frog is pretty old.
Futaba changed its plugstyle oh so long ago.

Why not another beetle shell for this one actually?
The E-zilla shell is crazy cool.

Well a Bug body would fit but already have the 2 Hornets...Plus I want a Brat Re-release but dont wanna shell out the $160 for one. Pretty sure I can build on cheaper as I got this frog for nothing. The receiver is on 72mhz and the plug is the old style G I believe was the name. It's also held on by magnets...not sure how that is for reception but it will be change for sure!

The brad is cool indeed, I'm just affraid of the body's availability: Tamiya only rerelases kits, not the bodies separately I believe.
But, maybe you can convince someone to sell you the lexan one that comes extra in the rerelease kit.
Goodluck!
