ESC/motor amps to turns?
I'm buying some new stuff to put a slash together for my nephew. All I really have left to buy is an brushless ESC/motor and batteries for it. I'll most likely be putting a sensorless ESC/motor into the truck. I have very little experience with sensorless stuff. (All my race gear is sensored) Most of these inexpensive ESCs seem to be rated in amps. Does anyone know the values of amps compared to either turns, or kv? For instance, I'd like to know how fast a motor a 45amp ESC can handle. (I'm not looking for anything crazy-fast... something comparable to a 10.5 would be great) I've done some searching online without much luck. Any insight would be appreciated!
Re: ESC/motor amps to turns?
the lower amp (under 60) usually are for the 380 size rotor motors, they look like they are 540 because of the heat sink can.
for a truck i wouldn't go under 60amp with a true 540 sized motor.
i have heard really bad things about the 45amp units, they look like ezruns but carry the brand name aneolian or something.
stick to then ez runs if you are buying cheap. hobbywing units are really good, beware of hobbywing/ezrun knock offs.

Cool, above 60amps, then.
I guess you mean this one. Good to know. I've heard good things about hobbywing stuff from a few guys I race offroad with. I'll just stick with an ezrun combo.
Thanks!

Re: ESC/motor amps to turns?
if you are putting this in a slash, go a lower KV motor. I think any thing above 4000kv will get hot. Especially if run on nimh.
The VXL from traxxas is a 3500KV system. I used it in my slash and rustler and it did very well.
Due to you giving this to a nephew, i assume younger, i would go with the VXL. The water resistance is the main reason.
Is this for a 2wd slash?
If you are stuck on the EZrun, then i would do the 60amp esc and the 4k motor. I think it is the 8.5 motor.
Any ezrun with a (.5) at the end is a true 540 motor. Any thing else is a 380 with heat sinks.

thats the one. it may look like an ezrun but it's not.
you can also find the associated rtr bl system on ebay pretty cheap, comes with a 3300kv motor.
edit:
if he plans on racing, splurge a bit and get hobbywing's xe run, sensored series. truly impressive for the price.

the 3300 motors in the AE kit are a short can. I feel they will get hot in this heavier chassis.kaiser wrote:tsan wrote:Cool, above 60amps, then.

Re: ESC/motor amps to turns?
Thanks guys.
No, he won't be doing any racing. I think I might try one of these:
I might try a 'Leopard' setup.

$60 seems like it's Worth the risk. Plus, it's Thunder Cats powered.
