PROJECT A&L Conversion custom
Originally I got this arms and chassis on a trade and wanted to use the arms on a custom chassis I was going to cut. You can see the conditions of these parts on the photos. After looking at some graphite chassis restorations on the forum and not really seeing a lot of these A&L graphite kits I decided to try it with this chassis and it turned out a lot better that I planed. It was a lot of work and a lot of sanding and painting and sanding.
This finish on the chassis is mat black with a mat clear coat. I kind of prefer this finish than the gloss on carbon parts. You can notice some of the holes that I repaired but you can't feel them at all it is very flat and smooth. The arms have a lot of never dull hands on them to get them to the current state.
I'll let the pics talk.
AFTER
------
AFTER
This car will have most NIB parts except for the rear arms and chassis as well as some cool old parts, adapted parts and custom parts. The general color scheme for the roller will be of black, blue and some yellow.
Hope you like it.

Re: PROJECT A&L Conversion custom
Looking good. Couple of questions:
What kind of paint are you using? Krylon? Something else? Did you prime the graphite first?
Are you going to sand the edges of your chassis to make it look like carbon again?
Did you use a Dremel to polish that aluminum or something else? What are "never dull hands"?
What kind of durability are you looking for out of your final product? Is this going to be a runner or shelved?

Re: PROJECT A&L Conversion custom
On the chassis I machined sanded the PC-7 after it was all dried and then use some gray primer on it. I had to re do some PC-7 and re-sand it again because it was not "perfect". After the 2nd PC-7 is completely dried I machined sanded it again and then used some wet fine sandpaper to get it all even a smooth.shirochanwrx wrote:Looking good. Couple of questions:

Then,
- Primer and fine sanding
- black krylon and then wet sanding
- 2 hands of mat black car paint and then some more wet sanding.
- One more hand of mat black and then a mat clear to finish it out.
(I probable did more sanding than what I mentioned above)
I don't think you need to use any expensive paint on it, if you take your time and prime it and wet sand it several times it grabs the finish very well. I am leaving the edges like they are. you can still see some of the layer.
This chassis can take what ever the original new chassis can take it will scratch the same way but I am sure the paint won't fall of. I am not planning on running it now but I will eventually take it to the track.
I use NEVR-DULL on the arms hand worked the heck out of them all over several times and then use a Dremel polishing pad to finish them out.

Re: PROJECT A&L Conversion custom
Thanks for the comments guys.
The Parts
It will sport AE blue shocks all around.
REAR
I made some custom towers for it and I am using some aluminum servo mounts on the rear tower to mount the shocks. I will make a new motor guard and it will be getting a fresh rebuilt 6 gear transmission with a blue aluminum GPM motor plate and MIP CVD's.
FRONT
I am using RPM front arms intended for a Traxxas bullet, they are very similar to the Andy's arms but they are a bit longer. I really like the shape of the arms so I will see how they work out. It will also be using a custom tower with 1.02 shocks.
More later.

Re: PROJECT A&L Conversion custom
Have you ever considered offering your front custom tower for sale like in your green old is new buggy build? I assume this is the same style front tower you will make for this build.

X2 - I've always loved the look of your front tower. Rear too in fact .flipwils11 wrote:Have you ever considered offering your front custom tower for sale like in your green old is new buggy build? I assume this is the same style front tower you will make for this build.

Nicely done! Bravo! The chassis looks like it came off the stealth fighter.

Sweet project. Your work so far looks really good. I haven't seen too many of the A&L graphite chassis out there. They must be pretty rare.
