MIP changebox transmission for RC10

Post by m_vice »

Haven't seen a lot of these around but I ended up with one.

I got this on my later purchase, got a T2 and it came with a MIP tranny. When I opened the case, it had the incorrect diff in it.
Long story short I found the MIP diff on the T2 tranny and I discovered the T2, GT, B4 and T4 tranny diffs has the same teeth count as the old MIP changebox tranny.

Anyone knows how to get this old tranny case whiter? Peroxide?

I think you can use the newer diff on the old MIP if you sand it down and make it thinner.

I don't have any manuals or any more knowledge on this so any more info on this is welcome.

Gear Ratio = 2.61

You just had to ask, I found that out a little while ago. You're right about needing to sand down the Associated diff gear, it's wider than the one from MIP. It's not much though, may be easier to clearance the inside of the case if you're going to be constantly using the Associated diff gears...

I was looking at one of these the other day on ebay. I was thinking of giving it a try but could not find rebuild parts. Would be good if you could get the newer diff to fit. I wonder if there are any idler gears that could be used as well?

Strange to see bushings in that box. I would have thought if some one had paid so much to get a new box they would have got bearings too.

I am looking for a manual if anyone has one.

I rebuilt the diff with new parts and I cant get it to be smooth like the regular diff. I am wandering if this is normal or if I am missing a spacer or something.

Ok, I decided to show the built of this tranny after cleaning.

Image

The transmission case was defective when I got it; it was missing a plastic piece (it is like a spacer but it had thread to screw the motor plate to the tranny box from the motor plate side). I made an aluminum spacer and got a longer screw so it grabs from the plastid tranny box.

Nice old stealth slipper clutch.

Now to deciding on what project to use it.
The motor plate is a temp motor plate until I decide on the car this is going to go in.

Since the MIP box uses a standard top shaft, you could swap over to B4/T4 slipper parts really easily (as compared to the RPM box).
