New AYK Radiant build.

Post by besty22 »

Hi,
I have been collecting the parts for this build for a few months now and have only a few more parts to find so I thought I would build it anyway.
(This is my first build thread besides the Bulldogs which are still in pieces lol)

My parts were mainly sourced from Bormac as part of a trade (more than a little biased in my favour) and some parts from AYKBOBCAT for a very fair price, also a few parts sourced from Udisco in Canada.
Big thanks to the guys for helping me out with the parts.

The original running gear parts are quite hard to come by so I have installed Kyosho Optima chain diffs using custom made adapters.
I had the adapters made up by a mate of mine but unfortunately he doesnt have a mill so he cut rings out of aluminium which I pressed together to make bearing spacers so that optima diffs would fit into the radiant housing.
I had to machine the front gearbox housing to fit the optima diffs also.

The pictures are as of today and as you can see I just need some chain guides and rear motor cover plate to complete the car. I dont need the top plate as Jason made me one from fibreglass which I wil dye black. The steering mechanism is from a Pro Radiant so I will attach a servo to the side plate if that ever eventuates :)

Enjoy the pics. I welcome all comments.
First step is to build the shocks. Not the best design IMHO but I got them to work ok

Here are the assembled pictures.
I used some repro decals for the AYK stickers and made up the Radiant stickers from letter set.

Looks great ...... Any chance of the dimensions on the spacers and did you try a 0ptima belt drive unit?

Hi, No I didnt try the belt drive as I dont think a rear belt would be easy to find. I measured it all up with digital calipers but found that sizes were too tight. The measurements were modified to suit. When I pull the layshaft out I will measure the spacers up and post sizes.
The front gearbox halves just needed some extra material cut away from the bottom thickness to clear the chain.
So now the base thickness is approx 1mm in the thinnest part.
Photos to follow.
Thanks Chris

Hi guys. Thanks for all the good feedback. I really love the look of this car. It is sitting in the Kitchen taking pride of place much to my wifes disgust. lol
I am still chasing top and bottom chain guides and a rear motor cover plate. If anyone has them and are willing to sell Im very interested.
Thanks
Chris
