Cougar 2 Team car???

Post by RedScampi »

Snagged this off RC Universe due to the sharp eyes of one of our members. Got it cheap and it looks like it will clean up very nicely. :D Someone covered the bottom of the car in sticky tape which may have had some sort of belly pan attached and may have saved it from the worst damage. There only appear to be a few scrapes at the back of the chassis. The rear wheels appear to be newish. Is this for certain a Team car :?:

Great score Gary. It even has the ball raced steering and alloy roler drive shafts too!
This could well be a very good example of one of my favourites!

Thanks Jason. I've spent the last hour or so doing some preliminary cleaning, mostly removing old servo tape etc. and I do think it's going to come out pretty nice. Still in process but I had to share:

Stunning! Please dont take the shocks off this car and mount B44 dampers like others are doing with vintage cars. The stock car is actually quite good.

You are lucky to find such a sweet example mate.

Yeah, thanks Jason. I'm pretty happy with this one. I won't be changing the shocks out either. Probably I'll clean this one up thoroughly and park her next to my works car. :)

That tub came out really well considering all the tape that was on it.

Most tubs come full of scratches and gouges so yours looks a good one :)

Thanks Paul. I was immediately gratified to see the condition of the bottom as soon as I got over the amazement of the even brick pattern of tape on it. This stuff was tacky to the touch and basically melted away with a generous application of goo gone. I still have some scrubbing to do where the velcro was applied at the edges. Oddly, this tub appears to be discolored where the tape was applied almost as if the glue might have attacked the anodizing. It looks oxidized a bit in those areas. Other than that there are just the marks you can see at the back of the chassis and a couple of small places on top where someone decided to use a screwdiver to remove servo tape. I'm wondering if a light polish might bring some of the shine back?

I think that tub's anodized, so any polishing might actually do the opposite, and negatively affect the anodizing, so I'd be cautious about how aggressive your polishing would get. Unless the anodized finish was subsequently clear-coated, I wouldn't do anything more than a good cleaning. :)

I wouldn't polish the chassis too harshly or risk taking the nice gloss off it.

It's funny, the team cars seem to have a wide colour variation. I've seen deep red, right down to very washed out red. I'm not sure if the red fades badly or that Schumacher maybe changed something during their production (Not sure of they would have done the anodizing themselves?)

Here's mine, at the blood red end of the scale.

And the usual battle scars underneath :?

Pretty! Battle scars are just part of it's story which makes it more interesting. 8) None of my Schumachers ever seem to come to me with the battery straps. I'm assuming the one on my car is not a stock item, correct?

The battery strap is a schumacher item. The red does bleach out over time, and depending on where you would like the chassis to shine, car wax (or good floor wax) will do a great job of filling small rough patches and glossing up the surface. -Jeff

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think the fiberglass battery strap was stock on the Cougar 2 team.

I think you are correct. Jeroen however would be the man to confirm this. His knowledge is second to none.
