Graphite Runner Build

So, I am new here and just taking my love of tinkering with my pball markers and renewing my original hobby/passion, RC. I started with a Panda Cyclone that my parents got me as a gift along with the rest of my family and then a few years later I bought an RC10 graphite (w/6 gear) that I put a pro line truck conversion on, and then took it back off. Then I got older and everything else was more 'fun' and I forgot about the RC10.

A month or so ago, I came across a Bin that contained the ol' bugger and thought it was time to start trying to have some fun with it. As you can see below, the current state is not condusive to fun.



Shortly after I un-earthed the ol' graphite, google brought me here, and I've been admiring the assorted handywork on diplay and I thought that it was time for me to join in and if nothing else, get my post count up so I can get BST access that I'll likley need to complete this.

The intent is to get this together as a runner as I have enough things on my shelves already.....

So I started scouring the pile of parts, and the threads here and I've ordered some things.....

Front End:
Fibre-Lyte RC10 06 Front shock mount with top brace.
ASC9580 Associated B4 25° caster blocks.
ASC9581 Associated B4 steering knuckles.
ASC1585 Associated B4 front axles.
ASC9608 Associated B4 wheel spacer.

Rear:
RC10T Rear Tower(NOT USED)

Now is the part I need a bit of advice on, stick with the 6-gear or throw it over for a stealth? I've seen a bunch of people say that the 6 gear is fine, but I've also seen issues. Am I ahead of the curve because I've got black (metal) idler gears?. I intend on going lipo and brushless when all the dust settles, so please keep that in mind.

Any advice is always appreciated.

Things learned thus far.
-B4 motor plate NOT = stealth motor plate.
-B44 CVD kit (ASC9756 Associated B44 rear CVDs) does not come with the little retaining collars. Those need to be ordered as ASC#7996.
-ASC#9580 caster blocks ASC 9645 (2-56X 1/8 Button head screws to secure the pin into the block.
-Parts ordering breeds parts ordering.
-By extension vintage RC10 projects breed more vintage RC10 projects.

Welcome to RC10Talk. Looks like you are off to a good start. Either way there are many people on here that will be able to help and give you great advice. What I would say is, in seeing your 6-gear, you may want to stick with it for now just to get your car up and running.

Well.... In doing a bit more research, I've decided to go with the Fiberlyte shock towers. So they've been ordered and I am now searching for a stealth, as I don't have much faith in the condition of the 6 gear I've got....

Thanks, I had already posted in that thread.

Parts starting to trickle in, so hopefully I get a chance to start some sort of assembly update soon....

I did find this that will make things easier to drill the holes for the stealth.

I measured/documented an entire chassis a couple of years ago on an optical comparator. Here's the rear section: http://www.tunneltwo.com/rc/rc10_chassis_rear_hole_pattern.pdf

Just print 1:1 and drill to your heart's content.

Ordered a Savox SC1251MG, and Atlas PM'd me so I am going to see what Atlas stuff I can add to the mix. My CVD's are apparently lost somewhere, but I got all my bearings and alot of the smaller pieces parts..... I may start mocking up the front and rear as I have a feeling that I will be short some minor items, that I've missed. I am also going to do my best to keep the build list on the front page up to date....
We'll see.....

For now, if anyone has advice on shock choices I am all ears... I'll have the Fibre Lyte 94 Worlds tower in the front and rear the way it stands now..... Not sure the old shocks would be a good salvage, so open to ideas/suggestions....

Steering:
GPM RC10 GT bell crank

So the GT bellcranks didn't work as I couldn't find the hardware I needed to make it work. I went with a houge kit off of ebay.
Then my 2 jobs caught up with me and other things that knocked me out of the RC game for quite a while.
But I am back, and more determined to get this running.

Point of the layoff story, is that I did not find the houge kit in my parts box and ordered the A&L kit, only to see the houge's re-appear.

So I am now in the possession of an extra bellcrank kit that will likely result in another build.

OK, 2 general tech question...
Is there any downside to using allen head steel screws to replace the stock common aluminum 8-32 and 4-40 screws?
I've found some at McMaster that I like and I really like that Allen's are harder to gum up the heads on then philips but I wanted to know what the feedback was from the more informed.

Bought a stealth as I want to go brushless.

Hey guys NEW to this forum, I have an old graphite RC10 that I bought years ago, dumped a lot of money into it, had kids and in a box in the attic it went. Now Im in the process of rebuilding it.Brushless and Lipo wasn't even around when I bought this but I want to put brushless in it and a 2cell Lipo. I already put a Stealth tranny in it, will it be able to hold up to brushless without blowing up? I already have alot of upgrades on it ie Titanium links and balls front and rear, stealth tranny brace, Andys arms F\R, front bumper, brand new OEM rear shock tower, brgs all around, cant think of the name but I got some upgraded rear AE shocks, stockers(rebuilt) up front with AE green springs, U-joint axels, new front 30 degree caster blocks, spindles, axels. The steering is all new RPM. I just need to add the battery hold down. Ive been on eBay finding ALL KINDS of stuff for it. So any help from you guys would be great. Will and of the B4.1 parts fit to upgrade it to male it handle/more durable fit???

Well, I've made some progress on actually building this thing...

I got a stealth template and mounted it to the chassis as seen below.


Last undrilled pic of the chassis....

I then went ahead and drilled and countersunk the holes. For the countersinking, I practiced and adjuste the drill press ueing the holes already on the side of the chassis. This allowed me to set the depth on the counter sink to the minimum amount and keep as much meat as possible. I think that it came out well. SO now I have a CF AB chassis



I went ahead and mounted the mounts in the front (ASC6207) and rear (Andy's 3 degree mounts) and the front arms (RPM Team arms).
I also drilled out the blocks (ASC9580) to accept the larger vintage hinge pin. Everything went well and this is where I am at now.


Next thing I need is some time to finish this as I am getting really short on that key ingredient...

Did a bit more research and found that ROH73 made/makes undertrays.
Pm'd him and hope he still doea and will sell me one.
Mounted the rear bulkhead and all the shock towers.
It's moving forward!!!

Are the RPM arms wider than the Andys arms and are they any better, and worse???
