Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
Ok, So i picked this Slingshot up from eBay, I got it for $76 bucks shipped (Actually i paid about $30 bucks with my paypal bucks i used ) It was listed as good condition, The seller stated it was used for paved oval racing, He did not list any pictures of the bottom so i automatically thought it was going to be trashed lol, To my surprise the car is in excellent condition (Just needs a little cleaning), the chassis and front bumper are almost perfect, The only scratches look to be from just handling the car. He must have ran on some nice clean pavement lol.
Anyway, my question is what wheels are on it, I know they are HPI wheels and tires but i have never seen a wheel measure 2.2" with slicks? I dont have any modern drift / street cars but i thought the wheels were smaller?

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
They might be from an 1/8 scale. Reminds me of something OEM Kyosho...Spider or something nitro?

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
Thanks Guys, They do look kind cool on the car, but it looks like they will be discontinued before to long, I don't thing they make the super nitro cars anymore.

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
No - Europe carried them for a while longer than here and even had an Super RS4 Electric.
Nice find though.

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
IDK if they're going away quite yet... the wheels that is. Tower has them on order in white, black, and chrome. (That may not mean much, IDK.) HPI is still selling their super star (5 spoke) wheels for the super nitro series too. They are available in black white grey and chrome as well. See my avatar?

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
Ok after looking at it a little more, I have another question lol
Did the slingshot come with locked diff in the rear and locked one-way diff in the front?

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
The three that I've had came with only a rear one-way. One car was new-built and two were used, and I never took the diffs apart. I can't seem to find any online instruction manuals for the Slingshot or Lumina.
Sorry, I meant REAR one-ways.

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
This car is a very good candidate to be a "Hong Kong style on-road buggy"
I used to see one in Hong Kong in 90's, the car owner simply put on the Lazer ZX front shock towers on both ends, plus a YZ10 shell & foam tyres, made it a great looking car.

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
You got me curious, so I just went and opened up a spare one-way diff that came with one of my Slingshots. All that's inside is a cross pin that goes through the hole in the center shaft and sits in two notches on one side of the plastic diff half. No gears or anything.
I also have a spare open diff that came with the same buy, and it looks the same from the outside...I didn't open it up, though. So I'm sure you could use a one-way in the front and/or rear.

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
That sounds like Kyosho's rigid axle option (= locked diff), not a one-way...is the shaft gold in color?
Kyosho's one-way for the Spider/Pure Ten/Lazer/Optima/etc. uses two one-way bearings and two half axles. It fits into a Kyosho gear diff housing, just like the rigid axle does.

Re: Kyosho Slingshot Acquisition Question
Okay, so the one-way is pre-assembled. The Slingshot uses Pure Ten EP (TF1/2/3/4) diffs, by the way. The one-way and rigid rear axle (locked diff) both use the gear diff's housing. If you open up the one-way, you should find the following inside:
- two stub axles held in position either by e-clips or a ring machined into the stub axles, and
- a aluminium cylinder containing two one-way bearings, with two set screws keeping it in position inside the diff housing.
The rigid rear axle is a separate part as I described earlier.
