Ultima II

Post by madweazl »

OK, last one before Christmas, I swear lol. Guy I met through another webforum sent these pictures to me the other day and was curious if I was interested in purchasing it. At the time, I was just really starting to get the Turbo Ultima project under way and passed on the offer. I was also working on the RC10 and he asked if I had any RC10 parts that I'd be interested in trading. He had a bushing car and I had a number of bearing and a black Stealth trans that I wasnt going to use that he was interested in and we struck a deal. Hopefully it arrives before the weekend and I can start the resto. Not sure what I'm going to do with this one yet but I guess the right wheels will be a good start (just so happens I like yellow).

All I have for now is some poor quality cell pictures but I'll update when it arrives.

It looks to be in pretty good shape. I'll have to find a new chassis or I just wont be happy with it. Guess that may take a bit as there doesnt seem to be as many of these around compared to the other Kyoshos I've worked on. Maybe I can find a way to wet sand this one?

That's what I love about my ultima pro is the aluminum chasis. Do you know if you can replace the tires on those stock wheels you have? I myself have the same wheels...

Not sure what kind of condition the wheels are in but those are actually the green wheels and this is the yellow car best I can tell.

Take a look at the ST-15 chassis of towerhobbies. With a little creativity it should match your needs and add some stiffness

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping that I come across a new one so I can get it to shelf status. Have plenty of time between all these cars I've picked up lately lol.

I just picked up a new built Ultima II off the bay. You can find these chassis for a decent price still:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/UM-66-Chassis-Kyosho-Ultima-2-Ultima-Scale-Car-series-300ZX-Porsche-911-ZR-1-/250939415096?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a6d279a38

Yellow rims are standard on this car.

Actually, the more I look at your picture - you do have yellow rims right??

Thanks for the link; I was searching last night and couldnt find one. I'm pretty sure the wheels in those pictures are the green version from the first gen but this has 2nd gen components.

I think the camera is just off possibly, cause they look yellow to me - the green would look darker I think. Oh well, you'll find out soon enough :) I recently sold a NB Turbo Ultima II - and those wheels were reeeally green.

Yep, we'll see soon enough. I picked up one of the chassis' you linked too and noticed there were no holes in the recessed area so I'm assuming that was a "custom" addition to the car I picked up?

I'm guessing the "custom" work was for some battery straps. The top deck already had the slots, but maybe the owner had a different setup.

As for the wheels, those are the yellow ones. If they were green, then the red parts of the picture would have looked really off. With respect to the tires, I beleive you can swap all of the tires between the different type of ultima wheels (ultima, pro, ultima 2, outrage, sand master, etc...)

ooops what he said..

Those rear tires are still around (same as original Ultima and Turbo optima), but those front tires are a little hard to find.

Knowing my luck, they'll be some white wheels that were dyed monkey puke green  Rears look like they're pretty chewed up.

The buggy showed up today. It's going to take some work but I'm excited to start the rebuild. The new chassis arrived before the buggy got here and I picked up a Teken 410k for it the other day as well. The wheels were in fact yellow but they are chewed up pretty bad so I'll find a new set along with some tires. The roadside trans case is cracked and I'm missing a curb side dogbone. The buggy also has bushing that are worn pretty bad so those will need replaced (I'll probably drop bearings in it). The diff feels pretty good so that is a plus. The shock towers are in decent shape, I should be able to sand them to a nice finish as they dont have any really deep gouges. I have another set of arms that I picked up during the Turbo Ultima build so I'm good to go there. I may have another turnbuckle from that same build for the rear camber links too. We'll see how it really looks once I start the tear down.

Was looking for a new gearbox online and noticed some seem to have the hole on top of the roadside case but the one on my Turbo Ultima does not. Anyway of knowing which one you're getting from the packaging? Why on earth would there be a hole up there?

The hole is there to lubricate the gearbox. On Optimas (which has a similar gearbox design), the hole is also used to be able to tighten the set screw on the final pinion. In any case, there's a little snap-on cover that's missing on your car. I've never seen an Ultima gearbox without the hole.
