F1 on batteries.
Maybe they can pipe the sound of high revving engines over the PA system:

Re: F1 on batteries.
The article is a year old.
The same crazy march of technology continues with F1, regardless of racing spirit or soul. When they did their BS move to V8's from V10's about 5 years ago, it was under the guise of cost containment. Guess what, the teams had to spend millions of dollars to move to the new technology including thousands of miles and hundreds of hours of testing. Great job, way to contain costs.
This change and march toward tree-hugger-ness in F1 is nothing more than a feel good statement from the power brokers in F1 with 9-10 figure net worth, and they'll blame the teams again for spending more money than most 3rd world country's GDP to get the technology to work and win races.

F1 is what it is, and always has been. Speculating, complaining, praising and over-intellectualising the sport is a waste of time. F1 is the penultimate cycle of progress and redundancy within a motorsport, it is at times groundbreaking and hopeful and at others takes years off development.
Regardless of which Gran Prix website you visit, which F1antic blog you subscribe to it still is a great show-

Re: F1 on batteries.
I regretted the passing of F1 in the 1960's. Then I missed F1 of the 70's. Now I wish we could return to the racing of the 80's. Will we eventually remember with affection what it has become today?

Yeah, very cool until it was quickly banned.Charlie don't surf wrote:The "ducted" car, the "fan" car....
If you are interested in a fascinating book, check out Can Am Challenger by Peter Bryant. A great read on racing, the story of a mechanic working his way up to designing cars, and the ebbs and flows of money to field a competitive team.

Re: F1 on batteries.
You mentioned that book before (and I bought it) good read- a little one sided (aren't they/we all). I have somewhere here a F1 book that highlighted some really amazing races and tecnological feats and follies.

Re: F1 on batteries.
That's fantastic! They don't race like that anymore!
