My $3.00 RC10 & The best source for parts?

Post by cautiousone »

I just bought this RC10 yesterday at a yard sale for $3.00. It needs some work, it has a broken front shock tower and some bent tie rods. How hard are parts to come by for these cars these days? I checked out eBay, but parts for these cars can go for a pretty penny. Any other good source out there for obtaining parts for the RC10. I also picked up the Team Losi in the last picture for $3.00, I'm going to strip the electronics off of it and use them on the RC10.

Front shock struts are still available at RCPlanet and Tower Hobbies. You can get the turnbuckles there too.

P.S. - Welcome to the boards. :D

Congrats on a couple of great deals. For $6.00!, you could way overpay for a shock tower and still be ahead getting those up and running. I would recommend you be patient and put a few of the "Shock Tower" searched results on your watch list and see where the auctions (not the Buy It Now"s) end up. You get a better feel for the used part prices, which may be what you want too. Buying parts still in packages isn't always necessary, and lots of guys put "Buy It Now" prices pretty high waiting for some desperate or un-informed folk to pull the trigger. Welcome. You came to the right place.

For just those parts you won't be saving much buying from eBay. Can get the front tower shipped from RCPlanet for just under $8 USD with their $2.99 shipping charge....that is if you're in the U.S. Stock associated turnbuckles will be at most another $10-12 USD on that.

Well thanks for all of the info and help guys, I placed a bid for the tower on eBay. We will see what happens on that deal. I also saw a shock tower on RC Planet at a good price, but it says it's a wide arm. Does that fit this model of RC10? I'll be needing some help with getting this buggy on the road

It's the same one as on your car.

You might also want to consider rebuilding the shocks since you don't know what they've gone through. A shock rebuild kit, shock oil if you don't have any, and maybe new front springs. Matter of fact before you make any orders it'd probably be useful to do a basic tear down, and clean up...car looks in great shape but who knows you might find a couple of other things that need replacing.

If you got a local hobby shop it's always worth a shot to stop by and see what parts they might have.

RC Carbon works has the front and rear towers in carbon fibre. Rear hubs, Rpm arms, stock front wide arms, batter cups, steering caster blocks and axles are all on Tower hobbies. Pretty much only the chassis, rear bulkhead and stealth tranny can't be bought new.

That car is another reference car to the production puzzle. Like my late 6036 Graphite team car-

Short eared (worlds) bulkhead, 30deg caster blocks with 6221/6220 steering arms and aluminum axles, C stamp chassis and worlds nose. That's as late of a production 6035
as there was-

Well it sure looks like I came to the right place to get some info on this car :D So I have another few questions, I picked up these two remotes as a bonus when I bought the cars. Will they work OK for my set up? Also, what is the better receiver to use? The Futaba is installed on the RC10 now and the Airtronics is installed on the Losi. One is AM and the other is FM, but I have no matching crystals for either. Whats the best way to go here?

I totally agree. I was speaking generally, with respect to the way ebay works.

And as far as the long versus short arm thing, and much more, there's not much that's not addressed to some degree here...

Looking at those shocks again is it possible that the rear springs are on the front shocks and the front springs are on the rear shocks?

The fronts springs seem to be buckling because they're too long, while on the rears the pre-load clip is all the way down the shock but the spring doesn't seem very compressed.

Those are front truck (10T) springs on the front (for the 1.02) and in the rear

So it looks like I should do as Phin suggested and go through this car and do some maintenance. Looks like a shock rebuild is in order as well. I'll look around for some original parts, I would like to put this back to it's original state as possible.

just a quick little tip when looking for parts on ebay, make your search pretty broad and take your time looking through the lots of random parts because they usually go for less
