Is acetone safe to use on white plastic parts?
Is acetone safe to use on white plastic parts? I have a white stealth tranny case and a white rear bulkhead that have what appears to be CA glue on them. I've read about using acetone to remove the glue from old, worn out tires and plastic wheels. Can I use this method to remove the glue from my parts? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Re: Is acetone safe to use on white plastic parts?
Plastic is a generic term referring to any number (thousands) of polymer materials. So, acetone is safe for some plastics and not for others. White and black AE molded parts are made from nylon 6/6 and acetone is safe to use on nylon. It will take the CA glue off with no problems.
Examples of plastics that acetone is not compatible with are polystyrene (white molded Tamiya bodies), lexan and ABS (black Tamiya chassis).

Acetone will eat plastic, but would be fine on nylon. I used acetone to remove paint from some old Marui Galaxy wheels, which are cheap plastic, and it ate at the plastic.
