Schumacher Cat 98 questions (rebuild)

Post by dj_kilroy »

Hi all,

I'm just about to rebuild my Schumacher Cat 98 and was wondering if the shell and undertray from the cat 2000 series will fit.

I'll post pics of my car during the build and hopefully get the new shell and undertray to finish the job.

I've raced the car in the past and will put it back on the track after the rebuild. I'm pretty lucky that I have a good stash of new
parts and it should run like brand new again.

I'm also wondering if anyone else has experience with this series of cars and is still running them.

Cheers

Kilroy

Hi

The cat ec shell is the same as the 98, the undertray is the same across the 2000's so they would all fit..

would be great to see this rebuild post some pics up :D

Thanks for that, I just bought a 2000 ec shell and undertray after studying pics of both cars.

I can't wait to get it back on to the track.

You guys crack me up!

Here's some pics of the build so far.

As you can see from the pics, I've given the car a good clean, replaced the belts, re lubed the diffs and bearings and started work
on adapting the chassis for lipos with parts donated from a b44.

All that's left to do is rebuild the shocks, and clean out the wheel bearings and maybe fit new front hubs. The old hubs are very sloppy and make it impossible to set the right camber.

There are a couple of trick aftermarket parts from Shumacher included on this car, which I scored from Alex (Incredible serious) a few years ago.
3 degree rear suspension arm mounts, 5 degree caster blocks (I think) and a one way clutch to the front wheels, which can be locked out for constant 4 wheel drive. (The standard one can't be locked)

And another question.... Doe's anyone know if CAT SX drive shafts will fit the CAT 98 (same length and same size axel)
I'd like to change just so I can run newer wheels and also because I don't like the tapered press on hex arrangement.. (it is crap!)

The next thing is to score some purple turnbuckles and have a new shell and undertray on the way.

It should look good on the track!

Cheers

Nope. Have some parts left, but from memory they're mostly standard parts, and/or used parts.

(Like!) :D

Don't you wish RC 10 talk had a like button...

Anyway I think I've found a source for those purple parts... The Axis and SST touring cars have the same parts and are on ebay all the time.

Sheesh I just gave away my secret!
