How DO you "Bash" ?

Post by losiXXXman »

Ever since I started in this hobby, I aspired to race. Though I'd still like to be doing that, COmpetitive racing just isn't happening for me now - just not enough time and money to participate like I did when I was single and childless. Seems like a lot of people just find cool terrain to run their SRBs on and shoot cool video.

I always thought the term bashing meant sending your car over ridiculous jumps, and trying to obtain ridiculous speeds only to cartwheel when you lose control. THIS is NOT what I intend.

I'm thinking about building some jumps and "obstacles" to take to the softball field, but they'll probably end up set up in a circuit knowing me...

really its just a term for doing anything that YOU would find fun to do with your rc
from big jumps to going for insane speeds etc etc etc
if im not racing i find it really fun to chase the neighbors cats up and down the street
they run really fast and hide when i chase them but they cant help coming out and seeing the car
i think its a predator type of reflex
i also like to see how fast i can go down the sidewalk and hit the little curb bump between my neighbor and i's driveway
its a little bump which at moderate speed is nothing but!! with a 9x2 at full speed its freaking awsome and really hard to keep it on the sidewalk im thinking im hitting that bump about 30 to 35 maybe faster
thats my type of bashing
have fun bashing
farmer
my spelling not so good! but i can DRIVE the wheels off anything!

Anything not organized racing is bashing to me. We get around 10 or more bashing around the boondal track. ( same layout as the old Tamiya test track back in the 80's) very basic but very fast & easy on the cars.

We all talk about the good old days & run around together

It's always more fun with 2 or more guys . I don't do bash on my own.

Good thing about bashing is it's in your free time not like racing that takes up a whole day & $$$

Gee I miss racing sooo much though.

I race and bash :) I do like 15 races a year (wife and kids, yannow) and try to practice once or twice a month during the summer (no permanent tracks during winter)... Bashing to me is pulling out a couple of vintage runners (among others, Late CE, LXT, TRX1, boomerang, a couple of others) and run them in the yard between the trees with the kids (about 6 and 3yo) running behind, asking me to run on their feet) and sometimes taking two empty shoeboxes and a board and making a 1ft jump... very very gentle bashing :)

Not so long ago I had a souped up VLB with a lot of reliability improvements... once in a while I'd take this one to the beach or to the skatepark, but really wasn't getting my kicks out of it :)

Bashing to me is anything not running the car on a track with the mindset of running faster lap times (whether there's a timing system of some kind turned on or not... there are many, many ways of doing it!

+1 i mostly race but every now and then i'll run one in the yard with the boy. no abuse though, well no abuse with the 1/10's, the 1/8 gets abused on and off the track.

Bashing to me means any non-competitive driving, usually not following any sort of circuit. I do find that I sometimes fall into a pattern than ends up being like "laps": around the south side of the maple tree, up the hill, around the wheelbarrow, and back down again, then see how fast I can take that hard turn at the top. But then sometimes I just follow the dog around to watch her get nervous.

How hard I drive depends on the car. Vintage cars, or anything I spent a lot of time on, I go pretty easy. But I have one RC10 that I built specifically to drive hard and save wear and tear on the others, and I also have a Tamiya CC01 that I always seem to abuse. But it has a 55 turn motor, so it never hits anything very fast. But I don't go in for the crazy jumps or skate-park type stuff; I know the car wasn't built to take it, so why push it that hard?

interestingly... exact same for me. Can't help myself... have to do some kind of "laps" of some sort in the yard... usually I use the kids' sand toys (fluo plastic colors) as track markers... we're all alike!!!

My bashing is actually less abusive than my racing, at least there are no other cars to hit me :)

And it mostly consists of cornering round a "natural" course.

I've never understood the bashing that involves huge jumps that cannot be landed. What's the point? I might as well throw the car out of the window and scream "WOW! Radical!!!" ;)

I built a small 10th scale track to run, it's pretty cool. The jumps are pretty big, but spaced decently enough to land them without too much practice or effort (I don't really want to destroy my 10's lol) I know it's nothing like comp racing, but much more fun than say running in the back yard. I don't have a huuuuge amount of free time, a few hrs of work here and there over the course of 6 months and it was pretty much done. Here's a few photos from a couple months ago, if you're wondering what the surface is like it's natural hardpack clay 8)

and it certainly doesn't qualify as "bashing" in my books

Bashing for me is usually just getting together with a few friends and spending a Sunday trail riding/crawling in the woods.

We did build a small 1/10 scale off-road track in my backyard that provided some good times this summer. I ran my B44 and beater RC10, one guy has a 2wd Slash, another guy has an SC10 and a brushless JRX-T, so it was fun while it lasted. But the weeds took over and I haven't had the time to properly maintain it.

We also just discovered a local gravel pile that is cool to climb. The guy with the SC10 put some old paddles on the rear and was tearing it up. His kids both have Axial's and always have a good time. The other guy with a Venom BL setup in his SCX-10/AX-10/Wraith bastard speed crawler thingy just made it to the top but not over.

I know I’ve said it before and it’s boring for some, but I figure if I can reach even one more person with each post then it’s time well spent. Plus I like to hear myself talk (or type).

I love to run an RC10 (B3 in my case) geared as low as possible with a Johnson 540. It’s fun as hell to do donuts, jump steps, run circles around your wife or whatever else you can find to do. With a 6000mah you can get an hour easy! 8)

This method started when I was a kid and got so tired of running drag races up and down the street I lived on for 4 minutes and then putting things away. I could get 15 minutes of run time with this method!

Of course the irony is that I’m like an SCR 1200mah in the sack with my wife… only good for 4 minutes…

BTW, that track looks awesome teman! Wish I was your neighbor!
