holy moly...fuel oil prices

Post by kaiser »

we just bought a new house, 4000sq ft and it's got oil heat.
the past 8 years i've been in a 1300sq ft house with natural gas, man i was living the dream. lol

my tank is low so i ordered 200 gallons @ 3.66 per gallon, $732.00 total. my tank is 330gal.
3.66 was the cheapest i could find, most companies were quoting me in the 3.80's.

good god, i think it's time to turn down the heat and wear a sweater!

what are you guys paying for heating oil in your area?

I guess I'm glad I'm all electric. Any idea how long that might last you?

you need to call around to local oil companys and find out if they offer a budget plan. our local company has a set rate at the begining of the season and you get that all year and if the price goes below that price you get credited for the lower price.

the budget plans are all at a higher rate then what i just paid. i don't need a service contract, a monkey can service a boiler. (i'm a monkey)
we moved in on dec14th and there was about 3/4 of a 330 gallon tank, now we are at 1/4 so about 1/2 a tank a month, but that was also when the basement thermostat was set too high so it's probably less.

That's definitely up there. I guess you'll have to keep a little extra shine around to keep Jack Frost at bay. Reminds me of a funny line from Cheers.

Woody -Hey Norm, is Jack Frost nippin' at your nose?

Norm -Yup, now let's get Joe Beer nippin' at my liver.

With the fiscal cliff we all might be burning wood for heat. I just looked up my first pay statement of 2013. :( I thought I had a rough idea of what the difference would be, but I was off!

A few days ago, i found I'll be taking home $75 less a month. My taxes went up. So much for all that talk of not touching the middle class with tax increases. Today I read that owebama is planning an extravagant innauguration despite the fiscal cliff mess and 16 trillion dollar deficit

Quite frankly when it's costing my wife and I close to 2 hunny a month... I'll complain all I want.

I'm not a very political person, but I'm very precise about how I manage my money and this is a complete insult. If they really need the money back that badly then they need to at least do it in stages. To rip this percentage of everyone's income right from their hands is damn near criminal. Why spend billions on stimulus in the past few years just to do this?? Not to mention, did anyone here who's taking this hit gain one penny from all that stimulus? I know I didn't. As a rule I NEVER discuss politics, but this is just over the top. It's not a simple law or policy. It impacts not only my family's financial security now, but it's entire future. I have constructed a very sound financial plan for myself and my family and this is a slap in the face. Sorry for the rant, but this is bullshit.

Hey Uncle Sam, can I at least get the courtesy of a reach around??!

Sorry, I realize now that you may have been merely commenting on the price of home heating oil and not the complete state of the U.S. economic system.
