A piece of racing history: Official 97 Worlds YZ10

Post by Lonestar »

The last of the last of the dogfighters... the ultimate YZ10, bought from an official guy bitd. And this one ran for the very last time at the 97 Worlds and then was stored in a box since then, so the dirt on it is actually genuine RPS dirt from 97

Interestingly, the car doesn't seem to sport a different top-deck and front tower from my 95 Pavidis... but it has a few interesting bits, like the countersunk front tower and the "reverse threaded" hubs (both sides' threads are in opposite direction to prevent spontaneous untightening of the wheel, I can't believe it'd ever happen but you never know, I guess  )

The upper plastic motor mount was cut it seems. There are other things you can spot but really it's a Pavidis with a few more details (a few pics show both). Apologies for the crappy pics, blame the laziness-driving photobucket app, so much simpler to use than pulling out the nikon and playing with the laptop and SD card

The best is yet to come... The previous owner told me he's still digging for the setup sheets and info bulletins that Masami himself was handing over to the Yokomo guys on a regular base during the event to ensure every one was up to speed, and when he finds them I will scan them and post them here :)

Thanks JMB - your former pride and joy is now mine, it's in a good home and will be well taken care of :)

I am actually wondering the same thing... period dirt on period factory car is cool, really!!!

I don't have the time to work on it for the moment, so by default it'll stay like this for a while ;) But better remorses than regrets, at least I'll have the wheel dots ready when time has come

i agree. leaving it the way it was from the race, is very cool. gives everyone the image of what happened at the race.

Im hazy, but you have a point, wasnt the 97 in California? Its odd this car doesnt have the split/damped top deck, it does seem more like a 95 now i look at it.

I think that at Pomona there were not many MX4 (which was still a prototype at that time)... Probably the B-team drivers were still on slightly modified Pavidis'. When I spotted the lightweight US screws on the front tower (countersunk) and a few other places, I asked JMB (the former team driver who sold me the car) what it was about and he said "That's how I got it"... and Pavidis cars defo aren't like that. At least my other Pavidis which you see on the pics (with the orange molded wing) isn't, and that one is a true Pavidis, but bought in a shop.

About the YA sticker on it, no idea really, this struck me too when I first got my hands on the car but I didn't ask, this might have been added afterwards as I know JMB had a stock of race numbers from there... he still has a few, even now ;)

I will ask a few more questions about the history of the car and follow up!

"how much"? Real gentlemen don't talk money matters 8)
