resto mod 101

Post by scr8p »

i figured since i was doing this anyway, i'd break down the modifications. this is a very easy mod to do. i know i've seen it on the forum here somewhere, and my latest ebay score also had it. although poorly done. anyways, here we go. b3 front shock tower on a vintage rc10.............

pic 1-2) it works out perfectly that the outer holes of the b3 tower line right up with the top center hole of a standard rc10 front tower. simply screw them together. now with that done, the standard tower becomes your drill, cut, and grind template. so, use one that you don't care about.

pic 3) since the b3 tower is narrower than the standard tower, the one camber rod hole that you can use from the standard tower is the inner one. so, drill those 2 holes, and the 2 holes for the arm mounts. then cut the excess of the b3 tower off of the bottom, and grind away the little bit around the curved part of the standard tower. take the 2 towers back apart, and you'll be able to dress up the bottom of the b3 tower. mainly to kinda square it up and make some nicer edges. it'll look something like this.

pic 4-5) now, simply put it on the car. easy mod, and it looks pretty sweet. especially the woven graphite tower on a woven graphite chassis. :)

Jason, that is one nice mod. :!: Silly question: Does it allow for longer shocks than the standard (.71") ones? It seems so from looking at the pictures.

Thanks

What is the purpose of the mod? More shock travel, firmer/softer shock function? Just curious because it doesn't look like it really changes the mounting much. Nice work, btw.

There's a cool feature with this new forum software that allows you to attach images inline. The button doesn't show up until you've attached the first image, but once you do clicking the button will put the image within the descriptive text or wherever else you want it, like this:

Then you just keep on posting your message as you like. It really makes line itemed how-to's easier to follow. BTW, that pic is my rc10 after doing scr8p's mod ... and adding bigger tires ... and ...  :P :P

I was kinda of wondering if the T3 tower could be modified in a similar fashion to use with the wider Dynatech arms. It looks more like the Worlds front tower than the RC10T one.

If you wanted to use longer shocks, you might be able to space down the holes used as "template" holes. They would be dropped by the amount of difference between the stock shocks, and the longer versions you are replacing them with. -Jeff
