2.25 Stealth/Silver Can 540 Gearing

Post by ca-rj »

I've got a CE with a 2.25 Stealth coming in the mail and am going to be setting it up for my son. Can you guys suggest a starting point for gearing a silver can RS-540?

Thanks!

Back in the late 80's/early 90's I raced at a club that only used 540 "silver can" motors on a small indoor carpet track..

I used to run a ratio of 7:1 with my old 6 gear graphite RC10, on 2.2 inch wheels/tyres and just make time with my 1400 battery packs..

If you are running the stock 81 spur with the stealth, then a 26 pinion will give you a 7:1 ratio..

However, you may want to start him off with a smaller pinion until he gets used to driving the car..

Cheers.

In my opinion 7.1 final ratio is too long.
If you have spurs and pinions so trye someting shorter like 5.5.
But remember go oil the bearings.
If the motor is cold after using 7 so trye shorter then.

I've been running my 6 gear at 20/81 and it seems about right. The motor does get very hot after a 20-30 min run. I've been running the car with 25c-50c 2s lipo packs. It's funny , I had a 10.5 brushless in the car and now have the slowest motor I own in the car and I am having a ton of fun with it.
